Active for all ages and skin tones

Givaudan Active Beauty has launched Mangixyl, a powerful microbiome- friendly cosmetic ingredient with proven efficacy targeting oily skin through sebum regulation. Created from responsibly

sourced mango leaves and designed with inclusive beauty in mind, this sustainable innovation presents Givaudan’s Company Purpose of ‘creating for happier, healthier lives with love for nature’. The mango leaves are sourced in collaboration with the Association

Bendia, based in the village of Koro, Burkina Faso, in the heart of West Africa. Run by volunteers, this women-led initiative empowers women to find employment by matching them with suitable job opportunities in the leaf-harvesting process. After harvesting, the mango leaves undergo a green fractionation process to produce Mangixyl. This fully natural, microbiome-

friendly active ingredient regulates sebum production (down to 15.9% after one month depending on complexion) to relieve the discomfort caused by oily skin – a widespread concern for consumers around the world. Givaudan’s double-blind tests versus placebo studies, encompassing three different skin ethnicities (African, Asian and Caucasian) have also shown a 49.5% improvement in sebum quality. Mangixyl is a universal, genderless ingredient that is suitable for all age groups and skin tones.

New vitamin D booster

Vytrus Biotech has unveiled its latest launch: Nectaria Lithops, the cell Nectar for a D-Skin. Our skin needs the light to be

healthy and produce the essential vitamin D: the sun vitamin. Vitamin D levels are critically decreased due to hectic lifestyles, mainly in-house habits, and an excess of sun protection cream use. The biotech company is

willing to challenge skin care and proposes a new natural active ingredient that significantly increases the production of

vitamin D by epidermal cells to strengthen, revitalise, volumise, and glow the faded skin, achieving the desired ‘D-Skin’. This is a new concept for cosmetic formulators that look for clean, efficient, and revolutionary ingredients to meet today’s consumer requirements. This new plant-based active

ingredient will revolve around concepts such as boosting of skin dewiness & glow, skin-deep layer hydration, microcirculation, among other discoveries that fit into current consumer demands.

Waterless formulation wins award

Azelis has won the “Coup de Coeur” award at Cosmetagora 2021 in Paris. Azelis received the award for the formulation “Time Dilution”, a water-free, natural based cream cube. Organised by the French

Society of Cosmetology in Paris, this year saw the 13th edition of the Cosmetagora formulation competition, which was open to all exhibitors at this year’s virtual show. A jury of experts awarded four prizes, divided into four levels of innovation: Gold, Silver, Bronze and the “Coup de Coeur” prize. The Azelis France Personal Care team won the “Coup de Coeur” prize this year with their innovative and sustainable formulation “Time Dilution”, a water-free, easy-to-use, natural- based cream cube that meets all the requirements of today’s current market trends. This is the second win for the Azelis France Personal Care team, having won the Gold award in 2017 for their D-Tox Magnetic Mask formulation.

Developed at the Personal

Care laboratory in La Défense, Paris by Laboratory Manager Sophie Thirion, “Time Dilution” contains more than 98% of natural-based ingredients and no water, allowing the user to store the cubes in bulk and reduce the need for excessive packaging and the transportation of unnecessary water which in turn helps to reduce the carbon footprint of the product. Sophie Thirion, laboratory

manager at Azelis, said: “Natural concepts are constantly evolving and going further to meet the changing requirements of consumers. These specific needs can be met by combining innovations in naturality and efficiency with respect for the environment and planet while creating a product that is a pleasure to use and has noticeable benefits for the consumer.”

New data supports wellbeing efficacy

Hydration is the fountain of wellbeing for skin and hair. It leaves perceivable effects, improves appearance and makes skin and hair soft and supple. In order to support the

development of new cosmetic wellbeing concepts, RAHN launches new study data for skin and hair with the two moisture ingredients Hydractin-LMF and Aquarich. A well hydrated skin is a

smart concept to support the spa experience of a consumer. However, hydration must be kept in the skin. Hydractin-LMF contains three moisture experts from the forest: the lichen Cetraria islandica, the fern Polypodium vulgare and the moss Spagnum magellanicum. The active ingredient is able to stimulate the skin’s NMF production and to form a waterbinding layer on the skin’s surface. Thanks to these properties, RAHN could demonstrate in a new in vivo study that Hydractin-

LMF provides a pronounced and long-lasting skin hydration effect in rinse-off products. Water binds through hydrogen

bonds to hair proteins and changes the hair shape. Inspired by the moisture-retaining substances of black oats and the biomimetic properties of lecithin, Aquarich acts as a modern “hairchitect” re-designing the structure of hair. Newex vivo studies reveal that treatment with Aquarich significantly increases hair gloss. Furthermore, Aquarich is able to strengthen the hair from within by enhancing its tensile strength.
