36 HAIR STYLING

The beauty of living spontaneously

Narjis Askar, Qundeel Zaidi, Eulalia Peri, Jean Xavier, Juliana Gomiero, Raquel Delgado, Elena Cañadas - Lubrizol Life Science, USA

Nowadays, consumers have an increasing desire to express themselves and show off their own style. They want to show the real “me,” which can change from day to day. A perfect way of doing so is through their hair style and colour, as it is one of the first things people notice. It speaks volumes about a person and how they feel at a specific moment. The temporary hair style trend is on the

rise because it is a simple yet effective way of self-expression. Changing colour and style can make consumers feel empowered. The latest Go With The Flow Hair Makeup & Style kit lets consumers easily switch up their style and colour with one-day solutions. The kit consists of five formulations in

different innovative makeup applicators that bring temporary coloration and style with the sensorial benefits of surprising textures and fantasy-inspired shades: Red Flash Hair Mascara, Duo Quick Pink Glossy Hair Gel Cream and You Go Yellow Hair Chalk, Impulsive Peach Cushion Touch Hair Cream, Silver Streak Hair Shine Duster and Brisk Black Hair Lotion Sponge Cushion Pen.

The new standard for styling Go With The Flow Hair Makeup & Style would not be possible without the breakthrough rheology modifier Carbopol Style 2.0 polymer (INCI: Carbomer), a versatile, unique polymer designed for rheology, pigment compatibility and styling contribution. It is a crosslinked homopolymer of acrylic acid polymerised in a toxically preferred cosolvent system. It has been designed by optimising the level of crosslinking and hydrophobic content to provide outstanding styling performance in wet styling formulations. The ability to build high viscosity at lower polymer solids, extraordinary clarity and extremely fast

dispersion times make it ideal for wet styling applications. The polymer eliminates the need for a

fixative. Fewer ingredients lower production costs and it also means less use of raw materials, helping manufacturers meet their sustainability goals. The result is a reduction in the complexity of the formulation, allowing teams to arrive at superior product claims with greater speed and confidence. New hair care platforms and textures that appeal to the senses are in demand. The polymer boasts brilliant clarity, easy dispersion and inherent styling boosting properties. Its viscosity building capabilities and wide range of pH and electrolyte tolerance deliver formulation flexibility. These benefits offer the performance consumers are looking for without sacrificing clarity, creaminess or viscosity.

Enables formulation by cold process

Consumer preferences vary, and many choose to express how they feel through the style and color of their hair. Go With The Flow Hair Makeup & Style is a temporary hair colour with built-in style- boosting properties that immediately achieve a natural, finished look that rinses out at the end of the day. At the heart of it is Carbopol® Style 2.0 polymer, an innovative rheology modifier with inherent styling properties and pigment compatibility. Creating a dimensional coloured effect has never been easier.

The polymer is not polymerised in benzene

or methylene chloride. Its cold process, fast- dispersion performance consumes less energy allowing manufacturers to rely on efficient, time-saving processing. The complete list of sustainability benefits

are shown in Figure 1. The polymer is globally compliant and listed by the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA).

Formulating with the polymer The polymer is extremely easy to disperse. It takes around one minute for a 1% polymer to disperse in water. Alternatively, it is so efficient that it can be dispersed simply by shaking the polymer and water. As a rheology modifier with style-boosting ability, this helps reduce the number of ingredients in formulations. A typical styling gel formulation with Carbomer has 37% fewer ingredients than a traditional formulation. The gels made with this polymer have

exceptional clarity with a smooth feel. The viscosity and clarity of this compared to traditional carbomers is shown in Figure 3.
