by ALAN SHEEHAN The Thatched Inn,
Ladysbrigde, is running a series of Table Quiz Nights in aid of the local community and clubs, with the next event be- ing held on Wednesday, 25 October. The
quizzes aim to benefit as many different local clubs, groups and initi- atives as possible at least one quiz set be
with to
held each month
through to next March. The first table quiz took place last night, Wednes- day, 27 September, in aid of the local Badmin- ton Club. “The
quizzes will be between teams of
four with prizes for first place,” said Bryan Hor- gan, the
organiser of series of table
the quiz series. “We will also have spot prizes and complimentary finger good. They are gener- ally open to everyone with no pre-booking required. You can just show up on the night. We have gotten a good response so far. We are hoping to have 20-25 ta- bles at [these quizzes].” Donations or spon-
sorship of spot or raffle prizes for any quiz night would be greatly accept- ed.
The entry for the quiz-
zes is set at €10 per per- son, with the proceeds

going to the night’s cho- sen local club. The
currently con-
firmed quiz nights, which will all be held on Wednesdays, include one for the GAA Club on 25 October, the Community Council on 29 November, the soc- cer club on 24 January 2018, Tidy Towns on 28 February and the Camo- gie Club on 28 March. “It is an idea I came up with and it is all about looking after the community,” said Mr Horgan. “We will be holding more of
these
events going forward as the response has been massive. We are a small community and we have
to back each other. Any- thing made on the night goes to the clubs so the more money raised the better.” The
schedule for
the series of quizzes is hoped to be continued after March next year, with more quiz nights to be announced. “We’d like to keep
every club happy,” said Mr Horgan. “I think I got all the clubs in the area, but if not this will be an ongoing event for the next two years. Table quizzes are fun nights out, especially from Sep- tember on. What
else
would you be doing on a Wednesday night?”
Third James Stevens Memorial Fundraiser for East Cork Rapid Response Held Next Week
by ALAN SHEEHAN
The third James Ste- vens Memorial
Classic
Car Run and Concert commences next Sunday, 8 October in aid of East Cork Rapid Response. The two-part memori-
al event will begin with a Classic Car tour around East Cork, which is free to enter. Participants will meet at the Mogeely Creamery for 12pm, with
the run departing at 1pm. This tour will be followed by live music at the Sports- man Inn, Mogeely,
from
around 4pm. “This is
the third me-
morial fundraiser,” said Graham Stevens, whose son James unexpected- ly passed away in 2015. “As in previous years it will include a classic car run followed by a concert and will be held in aid of the East Cork Rapid
Response. The cars will meet on midday on Sun- day at
the Creamery in
Mogeely and will leave at about 1pm on a tour of East Cork. It will return to Mogeely for 4pm. We are not charging for the run, but donations are encour- aged.” Mr Stevens’ son James was a musician and stu- dent at CIT Cork School of Music, and as befitting an event held in memori- am to him the second part of the fundraiser will be a concert featuring a host of talent from in and around East Cork. “Then we will have mu-
sic until about 10.30pm at the Sportsman Inn,” said Mr Stevens. “There will be bucket collections and a raffle drawn on the day. We will have a variety of small spot prizes donated by local businesses.” The night’s performers will include Top Men, Rowan, Bad Reputation, Rockhard, Lorenzo Blue, Johnny Houlihan, Dots
and Henny, Mike Carey, Roger Ryan, Mark Ryan, Mike Baker, Katy Stevens, and Aaron McCarthy. As was the case for the
past two such events, this year’s James Stevens Me- morial is fundraising for the East Cork Rapid Re- sponse (ECRR). In excess of €8000 was raised over two previous events, which helped the ECRR in pur- chasing a ZOLL defibril- lator response vehicle. East Cork Rapid Re-
sponse is a voluntary ser- vice which supplements the ambulance by
service providing emergency
pre-hospital care on par with ambulances at seri- ous emergency medical in- cidents such as cardiac ar- rests, road traffic collisions and other traumas such as farm accidents. ECRR is run on a voluntary basis with the medical equip- ment and maintenance for the response car funded by public donations and all personnel working with- out pay.

Sunday 8th October Mogeely, Co. Cork
On the evening of Wednesday, 29th July 2015, James Stevens collapsed at home. The East Cork Rapid Response group attended the house within 10 minutes of the 999 call. They worked for over an hour to stabilise him before he was transferred to CUH. Unfortunately, James died several hours later.
This event is intended to celebrate his 2 great interests, Classic Cars and Live Music. Donations are encouraged for the East Cork Rapid Response group.
