Culture Night Widely Celebrated Across East Cork

by ALAN SHEEHAN, ANDREA

CUNNINGHAM & CLAUDIA SHANAHAN O’KEEFFE

This year’s assortment

of Culture Night events held across East Cork were

hugely successful, last Fri- day, 22 September. Culture Night is an an-

nual, country-wide event which sees arts and cultur- al organisers provide hun- dreds of free events such as tours, talks, performances and more, with the events held in East Cork proving

to be very successful. Midleton Library held a

number of events, includ- ing a meeting of Midleton Writers Group, a local history talk on the founda- tion of Midleton College, the Vile Viliers, with the Brodricks and the school talk being especially well

attended. The events at Midleton

Courthouse were similarly popular, attracting a large crowd for its buskers per- forming live music, the film screenings inside and the live performance art. Crafty Hands Ceramic Studio was also packed for

its Claytopia event, which included hands-on pottery and ceramic work as well as an exhibition of local artists. Youghal saw numerous

very well attended and successful events including music, art, performances and a celebration of the

Irish Language. Similarly, Cobh’s events very successful in-

were

cluding the Project Clean- sweep exhibition at

Sirius Arts Centre, the Cobh Youth Services open night and the musical per- formances at

the Band- stand and Cobh Library. the Arts

Killeagh’s Greywood multi-disciplinary

artists’ residency held a family-friendly event – a Bureau of Surrealist En- quiries – which saw chil- dren and adults alike cre- ating surrealist

art while

learning about the cultural movement.
