U-16 County Final Aghada 1-7 Glanmire 2-6 The people that turned

up to Fermoy on Friday evening last were treated to a thrilling game of Ladies Football. It was end to end stuff but unfortunately we came out the wrong side of

more from this team. Glanmire

thundered

into the game from the off but were met with a wall of Aghada players on each attack. As we settled into the game we started to play some good football and were rewarded with some wonderful scores. Aine McGrath picked up an inju-

ry just before the break and was moved to full forward. The move worked a treat as a delivery from Mary Leahy put Aine through to rattle the back of the Glan- mire net. In the next move Mary Leahy went through only for the Glanmire keep- er to stop the resultant shot which would of pushed us six clear but instead we went to break leading 1-4 to

Championship We travelled last Sat-

urday morning to Ball- inhassig for our 3rd

round

match. It being a full four weeks since our last championship game the girls were excited and ea-

account a minute later. Scores were

traded by to us we travelled

with the bare 15 but every one of them were well prepared for the encoun- ter. The game began with both teams being evenly matched.

Ballinhassig

opened the scoring after 5 minutes with a well taken point. This was equalled when Lucy opened our

both sides and after 20 minutes we led 02-03 to 02-01. Our girls

really

stepped it up in the final 10 minutes of the half an registered another 7 scores to no reply to leave us with a comfortable lead going in at half time. Drawing on past ex- periences where we had

second half took

the same route as the first with Glanmire quick out of the blocks again. This time they managed to get in for two goals. To be fair to the Aghada girls they nev- er gave up and threw the kitchen sink at Glanmire but couldn’t draw them in. As we went in search of scores to take this game to a replay or possible victo- ry the time beat us in the end and Glanmire ran out

been ourselves in the same situation as our op- position trailing at

time and turning thing around in the second half we knew we had to sustain the work rate if we were to secure our place in the next

round. With that

in mind the only change made was a direct swap when Meadhbh took up the position of center for- ward and Leah replaced her between the posts. The second half began

as the first with Ballinhas- sig taking the

opening

score when they raised the green flag just as the first minute had elapsed. Again our midfielders and forwards did their job and added to our tally. As the game continued our

girls grew in confidence and began to really stamp their authority on the contest. Although our defence were tested

they stood their ground and neutralised regularly

a lot of the opposition’s attacks. We did conced- ed more scores but in the end we did enough to guarantee our place in the quarter final stage of the championship. A thor-

all in the pursuit of victo- ry and they were a credit to their families and club. Their never say die attitude was superb and you can’t coach that. We were worthy champions in 2016 and we just came up short in 2017. We will rise again. #AthF- hadaAbú Panel: O. Dzijak, E. Cronin, B. Wall, N. Ben-

Minor East Cork Semi Final On Monday evening

last the Minors entertained Fermoy in the Semi Final

of the East Cork League. It was a very strong perfor- mance from the seaside girls and they ran out comforta- ble winners in the end. This win means they will play A in the County Champion- ship. We wish the girls and management the very best of luck on the County Trail. Stay tuned to Twitter @ AghadaLGFC and Face- book for up to date news on fixtures and the happenings in the club. #AthFhadaAbú
