69 East Cork Bowling Midleton Bowls Club

by SHARON O’SULLIVAN

Our club returned to

bowls action on the 1st Tuesday of September and we had a great turn- out of 22 bowlers on the night. It was great to see such a large number on the mat.

It was good to

see all our members in such good form and our Captain

Peter O’Reilly

welcomed everyone back and wished them all a hap- py season of bowling and

hoped everyone would en- joy themselves and he was very anxious that

all our

members would enjoy the social side of bowls as well as the competitive side of our club.

Peter also wel-

comed a new member on the night Pat Lyons and hoped he would enjoy the season. The big number of members continued each Tuesday and Thurs- day during September. We had 5 teams in Con-

na’s tournament last week and everyone did the club

proud. Our 2 League

teams begin the season with home games against Cox’s Hall on Thursday 28th

on Tuesday 3rd National

Championships

October and we have teams entered in most competitions. We play in the G.A.A.

commence on Sunday 8th

Hall every Tuesday and Thursday nights from 8.00pm to 10.00pm and we extend an invitation to anyone who would like to come along and try the game of bowls.

October 2017. East Cork Cycling

Youghal Cycling Club To say we are delighted

is an understatement with the numbers that came out today to support our fund- raising cycling event in aid of

‘The Mercy Hospital

Oncology Unit’. It’s goes without saying

that cancer touches every family at some stage or another and it was very ev- ident with the support we

received. From local businesses

and volunteers from all walks offered, donated and gave up their time to help out today, whether mar- shaling, preparing/sup- plying food and helping out to feed what we think was in the region of 250 cyclists from Carrick-On Suir to Carrigdhoun and

anywhere and everywhere in between with great sup- port from our neighboring clubs

(Numbers will be con- firmed later). It’s a true testament to

the man that Jerry Geary is, going by the number of cyclists and friends of his, old and new that came along and enjoyed

Jerry took the bull by

the horns a few weeks back and pulled in our commit- tee to help out as best we could, our chairman John Treacy giving his all

to

help him as much as possi- ble, rounding up plenty of troops to help on the day. But credit where credit

Bar’, Shana-

garry and ‘Farrell’s Bar’, Summerfield, Youghal, for giving us the use of their premises for the event and helping us out at every op-

portunity. We’d also like to thank O’Donovan (Kil-
