MUNSTER

SENIOR CUP 1ST RND

Cobh Wanderers 0-2 Midleton Goalscorers: Ray Lally,

Kevin Murray Excellent

away result

today for the Magpies who keep their good run of form going this year. In truth this was extreme- ly comfortable game for Midleton until the 70th min when the inevitable pressure came on from the home side. Midleton dominated the 1st

45min

and were two goals to the good, Ray Lally opened his account this year for the Magpies through a great turn and strike from the edge of the box to wrong foot the Wanderers ‘keeper. Midleton 2nd

came

from a wonder delivery from a free kick from John Keane O’pick out the in rushing Kevin Murray to head into the top corner, and much deserved 2nd Kelvin Kruschel should

.

have given Midleton a 3 goal lead just before the

got finger tips to keep out a amazed Kruschel. The 2nd

half began in

similar fashion again Mid- leton could have grabbed a 3rd

only for Devine to

pull out another top save to deny new signing Tija- ni Aibor from edge of the box. The game became a much more even affair for 15 min with a lot of ball in the middle of the park played but no chances created, but Cobh start- ed to apply pressure that was expected but Midle- ton defended resolutely with key blocks from edge of the box from the ever solid Gary Collins and Kevin Murray, Midleton stopper Matt Gledhill fi- nally began to see action with Chubbs rasping a freekick off

the bar and

coming close from a cor- ner.

But a lot was in front

of the Midleton back four and they dealt brilliantly for 20min. Midleton saw out the game for a great

clean

sheet and had really good performances from mid- field three of Ian Maher

was easy for the lads but tougher matches though.

behind to collect another 3 points at Knockgriffin Park. A fantastic team performance from all the boys

to continue their

recent run of form, well done lads great result.

Riverstown 0 Magpies 5. A fantastic 3 points

against a very well organ- ised Riiverstown team. Well done lads. Goalscor- ers on the day were Josh Dempsey. Bill McCarthy x2. Marcas Lambe and Conor Morley.

U15 CSL PREM DIV

Carrigaline 0 - 0 Midleton A very good draw in

scoreline. This ahead

testing conditions against a very well organised Carrigaline team. The whole team bat-

tled extremely hard for 70 minutes to earn a well deserved point. There were chances for

both sides to win but a draw seemed fair. The back four of Dan-

iel, shay, David and Liam dealt with the Carrigaline pressure

very well and

gained a valuable point. Well done lads.

U18 Girls League Springfield 3 v 2 Midleton

First game of the

new season was away to Springfield and was a really close encounter from start to finish. Great credit to the girls for their first game since May and the way they dug in from the very start. We have a young side but very com- mitted to each other and it promises to be an enjoy- able year. As expected Cobh set-

tled a bit quicker and took the lead about mid way through the first half but then our 2 new cen- tre forwards got in on the act and Ashling Harty got away down the right side and hit a deadly shot past their stranded ‘keep- er. Ciara was Captain for the day on her debut with the club and enjoyed her start up front. To be fair it was the solid back four of Lucy, Lauren, Ash- ling Murphy and Niamh supported by Shauna in goals that laid the plat- form for our opening half performance. Very few opportunities were

giv-

en up as our midfield of Aoife, Ellen, Grace and Rachel worked tirelessly up and down the field. To add to that we had Roisin and Courtney come on and do their piece for the team before the break. It was needed as Aoife, Lucy and Ellen (great to have you back!) had come di- rect from completing the

Ladies Mini Marthon. Second half saw us

compete like for like and could have easily taken the lead with some good chances created. But it was the home side who got ahead thanks to their substitute and they fol- lowed it up with a quick breakaway through the middle that we failed to stop and made it

3--1.

But this was not the end for the girls as they cre- ated a terrific goal down the right which Ashling crossed for Ciara to fin- ish to the corner. More chances were created and a strong penalty claim denied which could have got us a point but it was not to be. All in all a very competitive and enjoya- ble game and looks good for the season ahead. Team: Shauna Hor-

gan, Niamh Molloy, Ashling Murphy, Lauren Linehan, Lucy Horgan, Aoife

Mitchell, Grace

Cotter, Ellen Harty, Ra- chel O’Sullivan, Ciara Carry(Capt), Ashling Harty, Roisin O’Brien, Courtney English.
