Killeagh/Inch Parish Explored Future of Church At “Spiritfest 2017” Last Weekend

photos by CLAUDIA SHANAHAN O’KEEFFE

To open “Spiritfest 2017”, parish priest

Fr.

Tim Hazelwood welcomed Jesuit

theologian, Fr Ger-

ry O’Hanlon. His speech expounded the ongoing “process “ engaging in di- alogue within the church. The

the church must

higher echelons of listen

to their flock, defending Pope Francis’s vision of the importance of the la- ity. Breaking down the old principles of a pyramid church where power was

at the top is no longer ac- ceptable. The church must listen to their flock and it must be all inclusive.

An

exciting discussion followed with interesting and

var-

ying contributions from the congregation. Saturday welcomed a

children’s themed spiritual hour in the hospitality tent led by Therese Budds. Chil- dren engaged with the story of the last supper through art and song, signs and symbols, and all children were extremely responsive to this very intimate setting and delivery of stories of Jesus.

Frances Rowlands ad-

dressed congregations at all masses on the way forward for parishes experiencing shortage

of priests. She

spoke of the wonderful op- portunity the church has in this new age and how we as a pilgrim people can be a church community helping each other with new ways. Spiritfest 2017 ended

on a high note with com- poser and performer Fr Liam Lawton. A capacity audience

joined in, sup-

ported by Killeagh based choir “The Voices” and the Killeagh Church Choir, with his well known songs

and encores included the Clouds veil and as you go. A prolific performer like Fr Liam expressed his delight in being asked to Killeagh and was an opportunity for him to meet his relations and friends of which there are many. We look for- ward to his next visit. The ”Spiritfest 2017” would like to thank all sponsors, patrons, assistants and all who attended from far and wide and supported the en- deavours of PP Fr Tim Ha- zelwood, Killeagh Spiritfest Committee and the Kil- leagh Inch Parish Pastoral Council.
