by ALAN SHEEHAN & CLAUDIA SHANAHAN O’KEEFFE
St Aloysius’ College,
Carrigtwohill held a very successful fashion show fundraiser last Wednesday, 20 September, raising over €6,000. The fashion show was the first fundraiser of the
new school year and took place at the Radisson Blu hotel in Little Island. The proceeds will go towards overhauling the
school’s
sports facility. “We had almost 700 in
attendance and raised over €6,000 with some sponsor- ship still coming in,” said Seán Twomey, Principal of St. Aloysius’ College, Carrigtwohill. “The night
was a huge success not just in terms of fundraising but perhaps more importantly in terms of supporting the community spirit
of
the school and giving our students the opportunity to model some spectacu- lar outfits from the many shops that supported us.” The event was held in
association with Lock- down Model Agency,
with Gilead as the main sponsor and the men and women fashion supplied by local businesses. “We can only thank
all the local shops for al- lowing us to model their clothes,” said Principal Twomey, “including in Cork Oasis, Vero Moda, Phoenix V, Prime Time, Fran and Jane, Miss Daisy Blue, Penney’s, Diamond
Bridal, Quiz and Gentle- man’s Quarters, The Suit Shop and Suzsa in Fer- moy, and Therapy, Dakota and Katwalk in Midleton. All of the local business and our Parents Associa- tion were great in helping organise the night, it was a very pleasant and fun- filled evening and we had some fantastic prizes for those that attended.”
The fashion show was primarily modelled by the school’s students, with the proceeds they raised going towards installing a new surface on the
school’s
currently unusable hockey pitch. “The
students were
great,” said Principal Twomey, “and while we had over 50 girls model, we could have had 450
there were so many ap- plied. However, we drew names from a hat to make it fair to all. Our teach- ers took the catwalk also and probably the biggest cheers of the night went for the male staff when they modelled their
suits
and casual wear. All in all a super night with thanks to everyone who support- ed us.”
