regularly than ever before from the female side of the fence. Why?
As literally every business woman who’s close to me has shared, it’s because they’re so busy – hectically juggling work, life and, especially, their social media. Too much compression of time is causing many of the X chromosome set to leave out the small details, more than ever before.
Being Out of Network While at the Networking Event
Good news! There are more networking events to attend than ever before! There must be, because there are more venues and attractions than ever before, and – let’s face it – more people in this world than ever before.
It’s gotten so good on the events front that one cannot possi- bly attend all of them!
The not-so-good news: After keeping track of the business cards I’ve handed out to scores of sales and marketing execu- tives I’ve met at dozens of events throughout the last five
years, I have noticed a huge decline in follow-ups by many of those individuals who are tasked with creating relationships with others.
Why do so many people fail to capitalize on networking functions?
After all, the process is simple: Collect cards/Follow-up with a phone call/Do business together.
So why is follow-through so sparse these days? “We’re all so busy with work and with our outside influences,” surmises the events manager for a new King of Prussia PA-sit- uated restaurant. “With it being so hard to juggle our lives we don’t always make the time to identify our potential clients.”
“Maybe it’s because so many sales people use that time as a way for them to be out of the office,” offers another nearby sales director. “A free meal and maybe a couple free drinks – their priorities are in the wrong place.”
Whatever the reason, I can’t hide my displeasure at not hear- ing back from those who I rely on for key information.
