and a spa. Additional special events and experiences include: celebrity headliner entertainment, fireworks on the beach, multi-media light shows, holiday events such as the holiday tree lighting, Halloween costume contests and more.
"I think it becomes challenging for plan- ners to get their people to eagerly attend and look forward to attending meetings,” observes Sarah Anello, venue sales spe- cialist for Center City District Parks in Philadelphia.
“Planners who are obligated to populate their meetings and events do not want to be a part of the ‘Rubber Chicken Circuit,’” she continues, “and sometimes just pro- viding an enticing menu is not enough - they need to change up the formula. Experiential meetings encourage more than attendance, they often make net- working more comfortable, create strong bonds and leave a powerful, lasting impression."
The winter season can be more chal- lenging for planners who are seeking a unique experience for their attendees. Boasting the Rothman Ice Rink, Rothman Cabin, Wintergarden Maze, and, during the holidays, the Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market, Dilworth Park on the west side of Philadelphia’s City Hall is an ideal location in which to host an event.
“Planners can host an event in the Rothman Cabin and purchase group tickets for their guests to skate,” says Anello. “If the attendees do not ice skate, they can watch their colleagues on the rink and lend a hand by taking photos. Some planners have hired figure skaters to perform on the ice and then skate with the attendees. Planners can even hire instructors to teach skating lessons to anyone interested in learning.”
“If it is too cold to skate, the park’s fire pits offer an outdoor place in which to gather and warm up while enjoying a cup of hot cocoa, cider or a glass of mulled wine. Planners can take advan- tage of the cold and have a professional
