COMPANY: LOBO

Can you give us a brief background of your company? LOBO bundles the technical expertise of a leading, full-range manufacturer of laser systems with the experience of the industry’s most awarded design team. LOBO has received more than 125 awards for its outstanding laser and multime- dia performances by the International Laser Display Association (ILDA) – this is more than any other company in the world. LOBO provides an impressive scope of products for even the most demanding professional applications, such as the Sparks Series, unmatched in their bright- ness to cope with large scale applications, or the LACON series of laser and multimedia workstations.

In what type of applications are we likely to see your products? Demanding professional applications, such as product launches, open air events, and opening ceremonies. Installations in amusement parks, cruise ships, plane- tariums, water parks, infotainment applications, museums and leading nightclubs.

What is your best selling product? Why do you think that is? The new Sparks Series. It fundamentally changed the way we deal with lasers, by introducing completely new paradigms and new possibilities thanks to its uncom- promising dedication to extreme brightness values. It is approximately nine times brighter than competing solutions, based on similar laser technology.

What do you think lasers add to a show or performance? Laser adds the third dimension without the need for 3D goggles or other techni- cal appliances. It is light, you can touch. It surrounds even large audiences with fascinating 3D effects and takes you to a world of light. No other medium achieves such effects, especially when focusing on an experience’s value versus

a small CO2 footprint.

Is it important to strike a balance between power and safety? We make no compromises when it comes to safety, applying a multi-awarded technology, called DDL, which monitors all safety-critical components and can lead to a safety shutdown in case of a safety-critical error within less than one millisecond. In addition, safety checks by independent and stately sworn radiation safety officers are a standard procedure in our rental shows.

Does laser law and guidance differ from one country to the next? How do you address that with product specifications? Funnily, the underlying MPE standards are virtually the same all over the world. Also, the standards for the construction of laser entertainment systems are influenced by only a small set of standards. There are differences in how the countries deal with the enforcement of these values. There are big differences. But an experienced company should be able to handle that.

What does the future hold for show lasers? And for your company? We observe a strong revival of laser now in the post-LED era. Lasers have changed a lot. What were bulky machines swallowing an endless amount of electrical power and cooling water a few years ago, have probably now become the most eco-friendly entertainment medium for the masses. Even the IOC is considering a ban on fireworks in favour of lasers at the Olympic Games. Thanks to its revolutionary approach in laser entertainment, LOBO’s sparks projectors are years ahead of the competition. We continuously expand the phi- losophy behind these products to other product lines. www.lobo.de
