Andrew continued: “Because the location we needed to project onto was not a smooth surface, more a wave-like ceiling, it made getting the lights to wash correctly more difficult. In addition, according to the Peak Tower, we were not allowed to drill into the crossbeams where the lamps were placed. This made the installation more difficult, but in the end we designed a custom-made base seat for the fixtures to encircle the crossbeam without the need for any drilling.” Michael went on to explain how the GLP impression 240 XLs helped Digi-Lite to overcome the positioning problem: “A conventional discharge fixture was not an option as the running costs would have been extremely high. Replacing parts such as colour filters, reflectors, and ballasts would have added even more costs. These components are simply not needed inside the impression XL, so they will never have to be replaced.” The LEDs inside the fixture have a 50,000 hours lifespan and GLP provides a two-year warranty. This reassured the management that they would not encounter the same problems which arose with the previous lighting installation. The fixtures are in use for long periods of time on a daily basis, so were required to be cost effective and relaible. Both Digi-Lite and GLP felt the impression XLs fulfilled the brief well. Michael continued: “Another reason I think Digi-Lite went for the impression XL was its design. Its award-winning design and slim line base means it fits perfectly into an impressive building like the Peak Tower.” The GLP impression 240 XL washlights didn’t require onsite control, instead they needed to be programmed to turn on and off at the beginning and end of each day. Digi-Lite chose a Martin Professional LightJockey 2 to fulfill the fixtures’ needs. The PC-

based controller has been described as an industry standard, and many lighting engineers have become accustomed to. For the Peak Tower it made perfect sense to go with the familiar option. The fact that it offers a great deal of flexibility meant that should the requirement for the lighting technology become more technical in future years the tower won’t have to upgrade the lighting console. Despite several design changes, the installation ran smoothly, and Andrew was pleased with the overall outcome of the project. He said: “Those in charge of Peak Tower project were very satisfied with the results.” Michael concluded with a personal overview of the Peak Tower installation: “The powerful punch of the impression XL is simply stunning. Even with the 40° lens kit it still shines bright and floods the whole ceiling with bright rich colours. The fixture’s case fits perfectly into the building’s architectural design and doesn’t cause any obstructs. “After living in Hong Kong for more than five years now, I am very proud that GLP has provided products to make one of Hong Kong’s most famous attractions shine even brighter.”
