PROJECT SHANGRI-LA - GLASTONBURY

Company: LM Productions Location: Glastonbury, UK

LM Productions were asked to supply a range of laser systems for the Shangri-La area of Glastonbury Festival this year. The after-hours pleasure city of the festival, set as a futuristic and dystopian wonderland, was cre- ated by over 1,500 crew and artists. Four of LM Productions’ RTI Nano full-colour lasers were installed; two flown at stage left and right positions

and the other two were built into the shrink-wrapped wall of the Shangri- La Hub. The laser systems were used alongside LM Productions’ 35,000 lumen HD+ video projectors. The combination of HD video projection and lasers allowed LM Productions to fully engulf the audience, providing a unique and totally mind-blowing experience to the festival goers.

COMPANY: LM Productions

Can you give us a brief background of your company? We first became involved in laser show production in 1986 and have created some of the largest laser shows around the globe. Always keen to be at the forefront of the technology curve, LM Productions was one of the first to offer fully synchronised shows with video, lighting, sound and LED systems. In addi- tion to the latest laser technology, we offer a vast array of other up to the minute technologies including 35,000 lumen HD+ video projectors. What makes us unique is the ability to combine multiple show elements to produce jaw-dropping effects and events worldwide.

What is your best selling product? Why do you think that is? Our best seller is our mid-priced laser range which offers great value for money, whilst still being versatile. Some of the very low cost lasers from other suppliers do not meet clients’ expectations, therefore there is a willingness to pay a little more for a laser system that can deliver the desired results. LM Productions prides itself on good customer service and so once ordered, the laser is deliv- ered ready to use from the off. We provide any safety documentation that may

be needed and any training that may be required.

Is it important to strike a balance between power and safety? Of course, we take safety very seriously and educate clients to this effect. LM Productions have a very good track record with HSE and will always tell the cli- ent what is and is not possible. Having done this for many years we have a lot of experience behind us allowing us to offer extremely creative solutions safely.

What does the future hold for show lasers? And for your company? Integration is the key word here. Already, laser software is highly integrated with SMPTE, MIDI, DMX, and video, and this is only set to get stronger. Stronger working platforms allow the use of programs like 3D Max to create high quality logos and animations and several new software products have these built in as standard. LM Productions Ltd will continue to invest in this new technology al- lowing us to become ever more creative.
