MEDIATECH JOHANNESBURG
Mediatech Africa, South Africa’s largest media and entertainment technology expo for the broadcast, film, production, professional AV, sound, lighting, staging and rigging markets, took place from 20 - 22 July at the Coca-Cola dome in Johan- nesburg. And it did so with an international flavour, amid an air of positivity. For many international companies, the show is not only an opportunity to connect with the South African market, but it is viewed as a gateway to northern Africa too. It has been reported that more than 6,400 visitors attended over the three day period, and the contingent of international manufacturers occupying the distribu- tors’ stands was just as strong. The business to business expo, which is the largest and most diverse of its kind

on the African continent, attracts exhibitors from across the world as well as local manufacturers and suppliers with visitor demographics encompassing a broad cross section of the industry. This year, it was recorded that 46% of visitors were new to the exhibition, with the remaining 54% having attended this biennial expo previously. Statistics show that over 50% of these visitors have authority to purchase, and that 13 % of these visitors have an annual spend of between R500,000 and R1,000,000. Exhibition Director Simon Robinson points out that 1.8%, translating to 115 visitors, were in fact authorised to spend over R50,000,000 on equipment and solution per year. An impressive number of brands were displayed with over 800 individual brands
