PROJECT NUERBURGRING 24 HOUR RACE
Company: tarm Location: Nuerburg, Germany
The 24-hour Race on the Nuerburgring in June ended with a victory for Porsche. The Manthey Racing teamdrivers came out on top after complet- ing 156 laps on the legendary ‘Nordschleife’. During the race, tarm Show- laser GmbH projected oversize laser graphics on the castle ruins, under
contract to the Silkroad agency, Stuttgart. The Porsche-logo, silhouette of the Nuerburg, and animated laser effects blazed against the night sky thanks to a pair of full-colour, 25W tarm lasers.

COMPANY: Kvant
Can you give us a brief background of your company? Kvant Ltd is one of the leading manufacturers of laser-display technologies in Europe, supplying lasers to customers around the world. Although we are mostly known amongst large production companies rather than venue owners and mo- bile DJs, lately we’ve entered that side of the business and realised that the low power laser systems are the way forward within entertainment lighting industry. As one of very few manufacturers in Europe, we are proud to have our own R&D facilities that help us to adjust to customer’s demands and market needs very quickly. The uniqueness of our product lies in the price, performance and reliability ratio along with the fact that 90% of all parts are developed, manufactured and as- sembled by us in Slovakia. We simply aim for high quality products, suitable for professional laser-displays purposes without the customer having to pay fortune.
In what type of applications are we likely to see your products? Most of the time it would be laser display applications, although there are some other industries we do supply to, but that is just a minor part of our activities.
What is your best selling product? Why do you think that is? Over the past six months, there were two big sellers. The 1.6W Kvant Spectrum (that proves the other end of the market demands lasers too) and 20W Kvant Spectrum. Big productions like this model a lot - it is reasonably light, com- pact and performs really well. And, of course, the price is far below any OPSL alternatives.
What do you think lasers add to a show or performance? It totally changes the mood of the whole experience. The laser light strictly and precisely defines its colour as well as a shape and that is probably why there is that cold, digital, almost non-human feel about it.
Is it important to strike a balance between power and safety? Definitely. Approximately 50% of all our first time customers have no idea what they need or what is suitable for their applications. We always advise them on what will work the best. Sadly, there have been a few situations when we had to refuse to sell the units to the customer to ‘protect’ his audience.
