If you’re interested in a rewarding and responsible career, caring for children is the ideal choice. On this study programme, you’ll begin to learn all about children, and about what caring for them means. Having the right qualifications is vital, and this Level 1 programme is the perfect introduction.
The perfect introduction to a career in childcare
On this study programme, you’ll acquire basic knowledge on how children grow and develop. You’ll also learn how to prepare a safe environment suitable for children to play in, how to set up and deliver activities that children will enjoy and benefit from, and how to safeguard children from harm. You will also have the chance, if you need it, to continue working towards your Maths and English qualifications. You will need these if you want to progress on to Level 2 in preparation for employment in the childcare sector.
CHILDREN’S CARE, LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT BTEC Diploma
If you’re someone who loves the idea of working with children, this study programme is designed to help you gain essential knowledge and practical training to work with children in a variety of settings. You’ll study a combination of theory and practical skills and the whole course is supported by placements to give you a real life experience of what it’s like to work in nurseries and schools.
This qualification includes 300 placement hours in nurseries and primary schools
The core units you’ll cover are Understanding Children’s Development, Keeping Children Safe, Communication with Children and Adults, Preparing and Maintaining Environments for Childcare, and, Professional Development, Roles and Responsibilities in Childcare.

Progression We have two progression routes in the childcare department. The Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning & Development leads you towards work as an early years practitioner with children aged 0-8 in nurseries, pre-schools and primary schools. You can also choose the Level 2 Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools course which will allow you to work as a teaching assistant with children aged between 4-16.

Progression Many students go on to study Level 3 Children’s Play, Learning & Development or Level 2/3 Specialist Support for Teaching & Learning in Schools. You can also choose to continue your training through employment, although some employers may require Level 3 qualifications.

Alternatively, we accept applicants who have successfully completed a relevant Level 1 qualification.
