ART & DESIGN BTEC First Extended Certificate
No matter which areas of art and design get your creative juices flowing, you’ll really enjoy this thoroughly practical study programme where you can explore and develop your skills in a range of art and design activities.
Have the freedom to develop your own ideas
This qualification gives you the freedom to develop your own individual ideas and prepare a portfolio of work for progression. The study programme is made up of nine units of general art and design and some specialist units. All students will do the core units that explore drawing, 2D and 3D materials and techniques, researching artists’ work, developing ideas and producing/evaluating finished work. Beyond that, you will be able to explore specialist units including Graphics and Design Craft. Completing this course successfully earns the equivalent to three GCSEs at grade A-C.
You will need to bring a portfolio of your work to interview.
ART & DESIGN BTEC Diploma/Extended Diploma
Do you have a flair for all things art and design, but are not sure what route to take? The answer could well be this excellent two-year practical study programme, designed to help you make the right decisions about your future aspirations in art and design. After an introductory period where you’ll develop your skills across a wide range of disciplines, you’ll move on to complete assignments in a whole range of different specialist pathways, so you’re in the best position to make the right choice about your future in art and design.

Progression Most of our students who are thinking about some aspect of art and design as a career will choose to progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design here at Petroc as the gateway to Higher Education and the world of employment.

Progression Many Petroc students choose to progress to specialist degree courses in art and design, either here at Petroc or elsewhere. Many choose to spend an additional year at Petroc on the BTEC Diploma in Foundation Studies.

Alternatively, we accept applicants who have successfully completed the BTEC First Extended Certificate in Art and Design.
