SPORTS ACADEMIES

Netball Academy

The Netball Academy was established in 2003 and continues to be run by Carol Anne’s head netball coach, Sally King, and her coaching team. Sally and her team bring their expertise and successful coaching style to structured, demanding and enjoyable coaching sessions.

Throughout the programme, you will study movement skills, tactics and strategy, positioning, ball skills and coach development. Also, the additional weekly strength and conditioning sessions are designed to improve your fitness and core strength for the demands of the modern game.

Teams will compete in the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport SW Qualifier, AoC National Cup, AoC Category 3 League and U19 National School Competition. Our Netball Academy are the current North Devon U18 Champions and also the AoC Cat 3 SW Champions.

Volleyball Academy

Petroc Volleyball Academy was founded in 2008 by the current head coach and international beach volleyball coach and player, Denise Austin.

Within two months, you will have trained and competed in the South West College qualifier, aiming to compete in the AoC Sport National Championship Finals.

Structured training sessions, focusing on individual and team skill development, are delivered weekly and will include elements of strength and conditioning, core skills, agility training and coach development.

Petroc competes in the AoC competitions, U19 Knockout Cup, South West qualifier and the AoC National Championships. The male and female teams have represented the SW for the past eight and seven years respectively, and in 2016, the female team finished as National Champions and retained their title, with the male team picking up bronze. This fantastic performance helped the SW win the entire competition for the sixth year running.

Tennis Academy

Petroc Tennis Academy is delivered in proud partnership with Tarka Tennis Centre in Barnstaple. This academy allows local tennis players to train twice a week on the indoor courts at Tarka while continuing with their education at Petroc.

There is the option of two or four hours of coaching every week of the 28-week Academy season, each session is coach led for the first hour followed by one-hour match play.

In recent years, our tennis players have earned the right to represent the South West at the National Championships in both the male singles and female doubles categories. In the 2015/16 season, six players qualified to represent the region at the National Championships in the Male Singles, Female Singles, Male Doubles and Female Doubles categories.

Players from this programme have gone on to American College and British University tennis programmes.

As well as improving their tennis skills, players can also take their Level 1 and Level 2 coaching awards at Tarka. In Year one, players take their Level 1 and then progress onto Level 2 in the second year.

Ladies Football Academy The Ladies Football Academy was formed in 2013.

In the Ladies Football Academy, you will find an encouraging and supportive environment with weekly fixtures against similar sides across the South West, where you can put your training into practice. Academy students have the opportunity to attend AoC South West trials, and if successful, go on to represent both the South West and the AoC national side.

Throughout the programme, you can expect to study a wide range of techniques, including game tactics, close control skills, positioning and team cohesion. In addition, you will have the opportunity to attend strength and conditioning sessions.

In 2015/16, our Ladies Academy competed in the AoC SW Category 3 league, the Knockout Cup and also the AoC SW 7-a-side competition, where they have completed their fixtures and will be looking to build towards next season.
