GETTING HERE
Getting to college couldn’t be easier. Petroc is conveniently located just outside Barnstaple town centre, with easy access to buses, trains, cycle routes and footpaths.
Walking to College
Petroc is located in a residential area, which means we benefit from ample footway networks leading to our Main Campus in Sticklepath. Footways are present along the entire length of Old Sticklepath Hill, linking to multiple pedestrian routes into Barnstaple.
The Main Campus is approximately a 20-minute walk from Barnstaple town centre.
Cycling to College
Although there is no formal cycle infrastructure on Old Sticklepath Hill, the street is identified by Devon County Council as an advisory cycle route. A combined footway/ cycle route connects Old Sticklepath Hill to The West Country Way and The Tarka Trail, which provides cycle connections across the town and further afield.
We have secure bike lockers available to rent on site and showers and changing rooms are located in our Fitness Centre.
Buses
The nearest bus stop to the Main Campus is located just a short walk from Petroc’s main entrance, at the top of Sticklepath Hill. Buses serving Bideford, Holsworthy, Ilfracombe, South Molton, plus many other locations, collect learners from here. Alternatively, Barnstaple bus station is approximately a 20-minute walk from Petroc.
The majority of buses serving the Sticklepath area are tailored to meet the needs of learners and are timed to co-ordinate with the start and end of the college day.

Barnstaple railway station is located approximately 400m from our Main Campus, and is easily accessible by walking/cycling using the footways mentioned above. The station provides connections to Exmouth via Exeter St David’s, with services departing, approximately, every hour. From Exeter St David’s there are opportunities to connect to rail services to other destinations further afield.
Driving to College
Petroc is easy to reach by road. We are less than 5 minutes from Barnstaple town centre and less than 10 minutes from the A361; the main route connecting Barnstaple to the M5.
