BRICKLAYING Diploma


This study programme is ideal for learners with no prior experience who would like to start their career in construction. You will learn basic bricklaying skills as well as study the theory to support your work. The course is designed to help candidates learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment in the industry and career progression.


Compete in regional and national skills competitions


Units covered in this programme include: Safe Working Practices, Information, Quantities and Communication, Building Methods and Construction Technology, Basic Block-laying and Bricklaying Skills, Basic Cavity Walling, Setting Out and Building Basic Masonry Structures up to Damp Course Level. These units will be studied through both classroom-based theory sessions and practical workshop sessions.


BRICKLAYING Diploma


This study programme provides the practical skills and knowledge required to successfully embark upon a progression route in college or a career in the construction industry as a bricklayer.


Take your skills worldwide


The focus for this qualification is improving and learning new practical skills and underpinning knowledge, allowing you to progress in the construction industry. Units include: building methods and construction technology, working drawings and setting out basic masonry structures thin joint masonry and timber frame construction, solid walling, isolated and attached piers and cavity walling foundations, and vernacular cavity walling.


All aspects of the study programme will be studied through both classroom-based theory sessions and practical-based workshop sessions. You will have the opportunity to develop your Maths and English skills if you have not achieved a GCSE grade C in these areas. You will also learn to develop the business skills needed if you were to consider becoming self-employed.

Progression Following this course, you can progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying or you could also seek employment in the construction industry and undertake further study through the apprenticeship route.
