Full-time Prospectus | Supported Learning SUPPORTED INTERNSHIP
Supported Internships are an exciting work programme for young people with learning difficulties and/ or disabilities aged 16 to 24 who want to move into employment and need extra support to do so.
The overall goal of Supported Internships is for young people with additional needs to move into paid employment. The structured study programme includes on-the-job training. The majority of the young person’s time is spent at the employer’s premises with a local employer supported by expert job coaches.
Young people are expected to comply with real job conditions, such as timekeeping and dress code. Supported Internships look at developing the soft skills of employment with vocational profiling to identify a student’s skills and qualities and the chance, where appropriate, to study for relevant qualifications. Job coaches also provide support to employers, increasing their confidence of working with the young people and helping them to understand the business case of employing a diverse workforce. Both the young person and the employer have support through a tutor and a formally trained job coach in line with the National Occupational Standards for Supported Employment. English and Maths continue to be delivered within the work context.

Supported Internship “This particular course is all about building our confidence and getting us ready for the world of work. The whole course focuses on finding us employment.
As part of my course, I work at both Joshua Tree and the Calvert Trust.
At Joshua Tree, I learn lots of different skills, such as how to use the tools and machinery and how to take accurate measurements. At the Calvert Trust I man the reception; answering calls and dealing with general enquiries.
With all the skills that I’ve acquired, I now feel ready to enter the workplace on a permanent basis and am hopeful that I’ll be able to find employment at the end of my course.”
On this course, you will have the opportunity to develop your English and Maths skills if required.
