HEALTH, FITNESS & EXERCISE INSTRUCTION Instruction Diploma


Fitness is a growth industry which offers a range of career opportunities. So, if you have a keen interest in fitness, health and nutrition and you train or play sport, this could be your route to a high-energy career. This is a comprehensive and flexible qualification and is designed to prepare you for employment in the health and fitness industry.


This programme gives you all the qualifications you need to work in the fitness industry


You’ll be taught by practising fitness professionals, using a variety of practical and theory-based sessions. The study programme covers multiple fitness disciplines and is tailored around the realities of the fitness industry. It may include some work outside of normal college hours. Units you’ll study include the following: Certificate in Fitness Instructing, Gym, Understanding the Fitness, Leisure and Recreation Industry, Circuit Training, Health Related Fitness for Children, Indoor Cycling, and Anatomy and Physiology.


PERSONAL TRAINING DIPLOMA & CERTIFICATE IN SPORTS MASSAGE VTCT Diploma


We’re pleased to offer two qualifications combined that give students the opportunity to pursue two related careers in one year of study. An approved gym qualification at Level 2 is a prerequisite. The course is a good progression for anyone with A Levels or a BTEC National qualification.


This qualification is highly respected within the industry


This study programme builds excellence in personal training focused on providing planned personal exercise programmes on a one-to one or small group basis. It covers anatomy and physiology, nutrition, programming and delivering personal training and health and safety. Sports conditioning, business marketing and outdoor fitness are also included in the Personal Trainer Diploma. There may also be an opportunity to study for the Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification on the Personal Trainer Diploma.


The Certificate in Sports Massage covers all aspects of practical sports. This course is offered on one day per week as part of the Personal Training & Certificate in Sports Massage Diploma.

Progression You could progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training and a Level 3 Certificate in Sports Massage. In fact, this programme gives you all the qualifications you need to work in many parts of the fitness industry, in gyms, leisure centres or as a freelance instructor or trainer.


How long?


One year, three days per week. You will be expected to participate in some work experience outside your course hours, to improve your employment prospects.


What do I need?


Entry requirements for One-year Level 2 Study Programmes are outlined on page 19.


Alternatively, we accept applicants who have successfully completed a relevant Level 1 qualification.

Fact file: Progression


With this qualification, you can apply for employment as a personal trainer in a leisure centre or health club, or start your own business offering personal training and sports massage. Further study options include Strength and Conditioning, Sports Injuries, Exercise Referral, Exercise Specialist or Pilates Instructor.


How long?


The course is likely to run over three days per week for 32 weeks (if both courses are combined). These courses are offered individually as part time courses.


What do I need?

You must also hold a Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification.
