Midleton on Track for High Tech CCTV System
by SEAMUS WHELEHAN
Increased security
measures are to be intro- duced to the East Cork town to assist Gardaí in their efforts to deter criminal behaviour. The contract for the
long awaited high tech CCTV system for Mid- leton town centre is to be signed next week, with works to be completed by the middle of June. The news comes fol-
lowing the tabling of a Motion by Councillor
Noel Collins at the May Sitting of the East Cork Municipality. The Inde- pendent Cllr had pressed Authority Executive Clerk, Joe McCarthy, for a commencement date, stating the initiative would help apprehend the criminal in a society where “house, shop and handbag robberies are on the increase.” Once
installed, the
surveillance system will be monitored 24/7 by An Garda Síochaná.

GoFundMe Page Started for Youghal Mother and
Daughter Seeking Intensive Treatment for Lyme Disease by ALAN SHEEHAN
from Youghal
A mother and daughter are
raising
money to undergo specialist treatment for Lyme disease. Jo Daly, a 44-year-old
mother of three, and her daughter Jessica, a 21-year- old student in Institute of Technology Tralee, were only recently diagnosed with Lyme disease – how- ever Jo had been continu- ally misdiagnosed for four years and both mother and daughter have been diag- nosed too late to be cured of the disease. This past weekend a Go- FundMe account was set up to raise €18,000 to send
them to a six-week intensive treatment clinic in Cyprus this July. The treatment is not a cure, but can be suc- cessful in killing bacteria and building up the immune system which, in turn, can force Lyme disease into re- mission to a point where it can be managed when they return home. Jo Daly’s symptoms first
began presenting four years ago when she started expe- riencing leg pains. By the time Lyme disease, which can cause more than 70 dif- ferent symptoms, was con- sidered an option, Mrs Daly “had every symptom you could think of ”.
