Midleton’s Educate Together National School Car Boot Sale Raises €380 Despite the Weather

by ALAN SHEEHAN & CLAUDIA SHANAHAN O’KEEFFE

The Car Boot sale

held by the Parents’ As- sociation of Midleton Educate Together Na- tional School raised €380 for the school despite the weather last Saturday, 29 April.

The car boot sale was held outdoors at

the

Midleton national school last weekend, with the rain failing to dampen the Parents’ Association’s fundraising efforts. “It was really quiet ac-

tually as it was raining,” Aoife Wall of the Edu- cate Together NS Par- ents’ Association. “But we still made €380. We

had 10 or 12 stallholders. I’m not sure what

the

stallholders made. It was still good, still nice and there was a good atmos- phere. It just wasn’t as busy as we hoped.” The next big fundrais-

ing event for the school will be held in the sum- mer and will hopefully double as a goodbye party for their current

premises.

“Our Summer Fair is coming up on 17 June,” said Ms Wall. “It

will

probably run from about 2-5pm. That event

is our big of the year. We

always get a good crowd at it. There will be cakes, games and a bouncy castle too. It is like a big end-of-year party. It is also probably the

last

event we will have at the school’s current site.” The

€380 raised at

the car boot sale and all funds raised until the end of the year will go to- wards equipping its new premises, located be- tween Elsinore Heights and Tir Cluain estates in Midleton, for the tran- sition at the start of the next school year.

“We are optimistic

that we will be moving to the new premises in September when the kids go back after the summer,” said Ms Wall. “From what we heard the build is going really well. There have been no delays so far and fin- gers crossed it will stay that way. It is flying up and hopefully it will be

ready to move into by September. We hope to raise more money by then. We have an aim of €20,000 we hope to raise by December. The Par- ents’ Association have set up a special fundraising committee

set up and

they will organise events between now and then that will be bigger than our regular events.”
