by PAMELA
O’NEILL, VICE- CHAIRPERSON OF PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION
Last Sunday night, 30
April the community of Aghada came together with friends and fami- ly to help to raise funds for Aghada National School’s development fund. The Dance ‘n’ Din- ner fundraising event was held in the Midleton Park Hotel as organised by the school’s Parents’ Associa- tion.
Guests arrived in their
finest to enjoy the evening in a beautiful room that was prepared by Sabina and staff at the Midleton
Park Hotel and enjoyed a fine three-course meal which was served to over 120 guests. Cork singer, Áine Car-
roll, kicked off the en- tertainment during the meal. Áine
appeared
on the UK version of The Voice last year, and charmed the guests with her beautiful voice. Mark O’Sullivan, aka
Fanta, was MC for the night and didn’t let
the
audience down with his promise of a fun-filled evening. Prizes which were kindly donated by businesses and individu- als from the wider com- munity, were

Syndrome, whose mem- bers are past pupils of the school, entertained with their original songs and thanked the teachers of
Aghada, particular-
ly vice-principal Jerome Sheehan for his guidance during their school-going years.
DJ Killian auctioned

O’Reilly
was busy for the night co-ordinating sound ef- fects for Fanta’s games, antics and banter, and had the dance-floor hop- ping into the early hours
of Monday morning. The event was a huge
success and many com- pliments have
poured
into the Parents Associ- ation through social me- dia. All profits made on the night will go to the school’s Development Fund. The
school has
had three building pro- jects since 2010. “Maximising the po-
tential of our children has always been our pri- mary goal,” said Law- rence Collins Principal of Scoil Íosagáin. “Down through the years, cou- pled with the construc- tion of extra classrooms, we have
extended our
playground, extended our school hall and built
our learning support rooms to benefit all on sundry. The benefits from these developments will lead to a more inclusive community now and into the future.” “Our next phase is no
different,” Principal Col- lins continued. “We open ‘Bláth na hÓige’ in Sep- tember. This is an Early Intervention class for children diagnosed with autism. We want to help all children achieve their potential. There will be a classroom, a multi-senso- ry room, an indoor play area and an outdoor play area. Included in this build is also a main- stream classroom. We hope to create the con-
ditions within our school community to promote education, awareness and integration for everyone. It is great to have this op- portunity to do more for our community.” “As with all projects
there is a financial cost,” said Principal Collins. “The
Department of
Education and Skills has granted us monies but there will be a shortfall. To allow us furnish and landscape
need to fundraise
properly we this
difference. Thank you to all who donated or came along to support tonight, and thank you to the Par- ents Association for their organisation of tonight and their ongoing inter-
est and energy in organ- ising events throughout the school year.” On behalf of the Par-
ents Association, Tina Mullane, Treasurer, thanked every act who helped to make the night such a huge success. She also thanked those who donated money, prizes, or their time for the night. “Donations are
still
pouring in and we will update
the community
with the amount raised as soon as possible,” said Ms Mullane. “We were thrilled with the night and were delighted to see our hard work pay off with such a great
turn
out. Thank you again to all who supported”
