East Cork Golf Tournament Teeing Up To Support Rapid Response

by SEAMUS WHELEHAN

Golfers can show their support for East Cork Rapid Response by en- tering the East Cork Golf Classic on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 May. The Midleton Park Ho- sponsored three ball

tel better ball tournament

swings into action from 1:00pm on Wednesday 17 May with two shot gun starts on Thursday the 18 May at 10:30am and 1:00pm. The 18 hole event in- cludes a tee

prize of a

weekend break for two at any Talbot hotel for each of the winning team. There are also prizes for

non-golfers. Price per team is €90 and includes lunch. East Cork Rapid Re-

sponse supported the emergency services in almost 140 incidents in 2016, an increase of 10% on the previous twelve months. Event organiser Michael Hayes said the golf classic

has been well supported over the past four years raising in excess of €4,000 per

costs for response vehicle

year, the operating the emergence for one

month. Anyone wishing to take

a team or sponsor a tee box can contact Michael on 086-3827743 or any committee member.

is a beautiful, intelligent, mischievous 5-year-old little

girl who lives in

Midleton Cork. At 12 months old, she was diag- nosed with Spastic Diple- gia Cerebral Palsy. Tilara’s

condition

means she experiences ongoing chronic pain which she suffers from each and every day. These

painful spasms

continue into every night and affect her ability to sleep. Her muscle prob- lems restrict movement essential for normal ac- tivities such as walking, sitting, crawling and roll- ing - all activities most other 5-year-old children and their parents take for granted. Despite these challeng-

es, Tilara is a very happy little

girl who loves her

school and her friends in St. John the Baptists Pri- mary School, Midleton. Tilara has luckily been

accepted by Dr. T.S. Park to undergo life changing surgery in the USA which

will relieve her chronic pain and help her to walk. €140k must

be raised

to make this happen. A tough task, however it is one her family and sup- porters are determined to achieve. To date we have raised almost €36k. SDR is a complex spi- nal surgical that

involves cutting

some of the nerve fibres that cause the Spasticity in Cerebral Palsy.

surgery and SDR

is a very individual and expensive

requires an intense after- care programme. For Tilara, the

out-

come we hope for is a ‘pain free life’. The possibility of im-

proved mobility, inde- pendently sitting or the ability to stand or walk- ing for short durations with the aid of functional devices are all things that may be possible, but we don’t dare to dream of them, yet.

To undergo

SDR we must commit to 2 years of a rehabilitation process which

includes intensive physiothera-

py hydrotherapy, hippo therapy and the need for specialised equipment to maximise the outcome. We are realistic about the attainable

goals procedure

which will be set for Ti- lara and her future. We have thought long and hard about SDR and re- alise that this is the only option for Tilara to live a pain free life. We

urge you to fol-

low and support Tilara’s treatment and give her the pain free

existence

she deserves. Please help keep Tilara’s beautiful smile always smiling. facebook.com/time-
