That corner ended up with Maggie
Duncliffe at the
edge of the box who shot at goal which was saved by Fennelly. Shortly after Ka- tie McCarthy had a shot at goal which went wide. Clare Shine had an effort on goal which was saved by Fennelly on the 33rd
min-
ute. She got her goal on the 38th
minute a Maggie Dun-
cliffe corner was sent into the penalty area and Shine
headed home from short range to make it 2-0. Kilk- enny almost got a goal back on the verge of half time but Amanda Budden made an excellent save to keep it at 2-0 going into half time. Danielle
Sheehy came
on for Tara O’Gorman as a half time substitute. City began the second half the stronger of the two teams looking to add to their two goal lead, in the 55th
minute
midfielder Katie McCar- thy played in Saoirse Noo- nan but her effort on goal was sent out for a corner by Kilkenny keeper Trish Fennelly. Four minutes lat- er Clare Shine played in a ball for Katie McCarthy to run onto but her resultant effort was again stopped by Fennelly. On the 74th

Corkbeg Reports by PAUL O’RILEY
AULDiv2A - Corkbeg 0 Carrigtwohill Utd ‘B’ 1 Corkbeg slumped to a 1-0
home defeat to near neigh- bours Carrigtwohill B in AULDiv2A on an overcast Thursday evening in White- gate. The defeat means that Corkbeg will remain in Di- v2A next season, as promo- tion is now mathematically out of their reach and the Beg can have no complaints about the result after a lack- lustre display on the night. Corkbeg had beaten Car-
rigtwohill by four goals to nil at Ballyadam only two weeks ago and this evening was sweet revenge for their local neighbours. Carrig were full of running, fought for every ball, hounded Corkbeg at
every opportunity and
they fully deserved the win. Corkbeg were first to threat- en though and Steve O’Hal- loran brought a great save from Jonathon Cronin in the Carrigtwohill goal only ten minutes in from a 25 yard free kick. Carrig were taking the game to Corkbeg, with Dave Barry pulling the strings in midfield and John Wade was inches away from converting a brilliant deliv- ery
from Maciek Beczek.
Carrig had most of the ball, but Corkbeg were creating better chances and Dylan O’Neill stabbed narrowly wide of the far post, while another shot
from close
range in the Carrig penalty area was taken off the line. Alan Horgan also had a shot for Corkbeg that flashed past the far post. But, it was Car- rigtwohill who scored the games only goal on the half
hour, as Dave Barrys corner kick was headed powerfully to the net by Sean Madden to give the away side a 1-0 lead. After being so poor in
the opening half, Corkbeg did play a bit better in the 2nd
period, but their pass-
ing game was unusually poor and all too often, they gave the ball away. But they were keeping Carrigtwohill pegged
back and Jordan
Ryan had another close range shot well saved by Jon- athon Cronin. At the other end, John Wade had a shot from an acute angle saved. Carrigs defence was very well organised, with Mick O’Sullivan and Sean Mad- den particularly good and Corkbeg struggled to create any clearcut chance. And as they pushed on for an equal- iser, Carrig almost doubled their lead, when John Wade drove through the heart of the Corkbeg defence, but his shot was saved and came back off the Corkbeg post. With ten minutes left, sub- stitute Cein O’Driscoll al- most levelled the game, but his clever
looping header
was brilliantly kept out by Cronin. Dave Barry almost out the icing on the cake for Carrig late on, but his curl- ing shot was saved, while in the final minutes, Steve O’Halloran had another free kick comfortably saved by Cronin. This wasn’t good enough at all from Corkbeg, in a flat performance that was littered with mistakes and bad passing. Better would be expected at home to Park Utd B on Saturday. Team: P. O’Reilly, F. Wen-
ham, T. Smyth, D. Keegan, C. Horgan, I. Casey, A. Cot- ter, J. Ryan, S. O’Halloran, A. Horgan, D. O’Neill. Subs: C. O’Driscoll and D. Casey for Smyth and Cot-

Corkbeg 3 Park Utd ‘B’ 1 Corkbeg beat Park Utd
‘B’ 3-1 on a blustery Satur- day afternoon in Whitegate in AULDiv2A. Corkbeg were not at their best again , but did enough to beat a hard-working Park Utd side. The
performance wasn’t
great, but it was certainly better than the disinterested display offered up on Thurs- day evening against Car- rigtwohill. Park started the
game
well and played with a strong wind in the opening half. To their credit, they never resorted to hoof- ing it long in the wind and played some good football at times. But, it was Cork- beg who almost struck first 15 minutes in, when Jordan Ryan smashed against
the
legs of Parks goalkeeper. However, the Mitchelstown sides early pressure told off, when a good through ball was taken by their
striker
and smashed into the roof of the Corkbeg net after 20 minutes. But, the goal woke Corkbeg from their slumber and soon afterwards, Jordan Ryan rattled the underside of the crossbar with a great strike from 15 yards. Then, Dylan O’Neill miskicked in front of goal from Cein O’Driscolls pull-back, be- fore O’Driscoll himself vol- leyed against the outside of the Park post. And Dean Keegan then had a thunder- ous 40 yard free-kick saved by Parks goalkeeper. Cork- beg equalised on the half hour, when a good move in- volving Cein O’Driscoll and Alan Horgan,
saw Shane
Bennett side-foot home from Horgans pass. Five minutes
for
Sheehy set Shine through on goal and forced Fennel- ly into another good save. Danielle
Sheehy released
Saoirse Noonan who sent in a cross for Clare Shine which she met on the vol- ley but it went just wide of the goal. Ciara Desmond replaced Evelyn Daly in the 80th
minute. Desmond al-
most got on the score sheet within minutes of coming on but her effort on goal
later, Bennett turned pro-
vider, as he hung a cross up to the back post to find Ian Casey, who volleyed into the Park net from 10 yards to put Corkbeg 2-1 up. And it should have been three be- fore half time, when anoth- er deep cross found Shane Bennett, but his header was wayward. Having been outplayed
for the latter stages of the opening half, Park improved in the second half, with Si- mon Maher and James Shee- han working hard, but cru- cially could not create any decent
openings. Corkbeg
created some openings as the half went on and Dylan O’Neill had a header saved, while Cein O’Driscoll mis- kicked in front of goal. The best chance of all fell to Ian Casey, who drove straight at the Park goalkeeper from 15 yards. But, finally the in- surance goal came with 15 minutes
left, when Shane
Bennett sprung the Park off- side trap and slotted past the advancing goalkeeper to seal the win. Corkbeg substitute Marcin Aszyjczyk volleyed wide late in the game from Stephen O’Hallorans deep cross. The
Mitchelstown
side did have two late chanc- es to pull back a consolation, but one shot on goal was saved, while Alan Horgan produced a brilliant goal- line block to divert another. Corkbeg saw the remainder of the game out comfortably to ensure a third place finish this season. Team: P. O’Reilly, A.
Horgan, S. O’Halloran, F. Wenham, D. Keegan, I. Casey, T. Smyth, J. Ryan, C. O’Driscoll, D. O’Neill, S. Bennett. Sub: M. Aszyjczyk for O’Neill(75mins)

was stopped by Fennelly again making another good save. Kilkenny almost got a consolation goal in the 89th
minute as Kilkenny’s
Leanne Payne got the ball on the left and fired a shot which went just wide of the post and the game finished 2-0 to Cork City Women’s FC.
Cork City Women’s FC’s next game is Saturday 6th May as they travel to Ea-
of
of the season for the Beg. With only the bare 11 play- ers, the Beg had everything to do from the start. It was end to end stuff all day with some top quality football be- ing displayed by both teams. Fermoy broke the deadlock after 30 minutes but weren’t ahead for long, when Alan Hogan drew level for the Beg. Just before the break however, Fermoy regained their lead once again. The Beg came out in the
second half fired up to fin- ish the season strongly and piled on the pressure cre- ating chance after chance. After 10 minutes of intense pressure, Alan grabbed his second of the day to tie the game once again. The lads kept pushing for the winner and committed many bodies forward, but were caught on the counter attack with 5 minutes to go and Fermoy held out for the win. It was a great
perfor-
mance from the 11 lads who turned up. They all gave 100 percent and gave everything. Man of the match: Ivan Merz Message

With a small bit of luck we could have won this league. We eagerly await the start of next season and hope to strengthen our squad before
then, so if there
are any committed players out there born in the year 2000 or 2001 who want to try out for the team, please contact Willie or Damien. I would also like to thank our groundsmen Terry and his team who kept the pitch I’m immaculate
condition
all season and without him there would have been no games played.
U-15Div4 - College Corinthians ‘A’ 3 Corkbeg 0 Corkbeg lost 3-0 to Col-
lege Corinthians on a sunny, but windy morning in Cas- tletreasure. The
Beg started well
against the strong wind, but when Corinthians got their passing game going, the Beg were under pressure imme- diately. But, an outstanding defensive
display by Begs
man of the match, David Hickman, with good support by Christophe Riff, Darren Gingue and Adam O’Con- nor, Corinthians were kept scoreless by the break. In fact, with a bit more
luck, the Beg might have nicked a goal before half- time themselves . First, Gift Obiwuru was unlucky not to

make a better connection af- ter a dangerous David Hick- man cross was whipped in. And then, after a great move involving Darren and Ol- lie Murray, Cormac Nash’s cross was flicked on by Jack Colbert and agonisingly for the Beg, hit the outside of the post. The Beg had a great
chance to go ahead min- utes into the second half, when Jack Colberts corner found Cormac Nash, but his header just went the wrong side of the post. Corinthians pushed on again and with the Beg tiring could have gone ahead if not for a great John Manning save. From the resulting corner howev- er, the Corinthians impres- sive number 8 rose highest to nod home to give Corin- thians the lead. The Beg introduced Josh
Murray and Sean Deasy as legs tired, but the Beg couldn’t pressure the Cor- inthians keeper. Corinthians scored twice more to kill off the game and end another disappointing game for the Beg. That said, the back five
played really well under a lot
of pressure and both
Thomas Land and Jack Colbert ran themselves to the ground in midfield. In fact, with a bit more luck we might have got a better result on the day.
