Under-12 V Innishvilla Date : 23rd
villa 5 On a day where a num-
ber of players were unable to play the game, Car- rigtwohill Under-12’s had to travel to Innishannon with fewer players than usual.
On a large pitch against
a very fast playing team, this proved Carrigtwohill’s undoing. Although the one-nil scoreline at
half time left a lot of scope for April

outcome, the
three goals conceded in rapid succession in the sec- ond half put an end to the contest. Carrigtwohill did very
well however to pull two goals back late on in the game before a final goal from Innishvilla put a gloss on the score board. Player of the Match;

Venue: Castletreasure Corinthians 3 Car-
This was a match that
Carrigtwohill did not want to lose and that could really have gone either way with Carrigtwohill losing by a goal on the counter with only two minutes
to go.
And at the end, the tears showed
just Carrigtwohill
how much U12’s were
disappointed. Of course, it is better if players do not finish their matches in tears, but equally, it is ok if their commitment and en- thusiasm exacerbates their emotions a little when the final whistle is blown and they just lost all 3 points to a goal at the very end.
Things had started rath-
er well for Carrigtwohill, with our U12s showing that they could do more than just keep up with Corinthians. Ruairi Adam in goals was busier than his Corinthian counterpart but there was also plenty of action at the other end with Ryan Wolfe, Cormac Murphy and Joel Joseph being full of running. Joel would outrun everyone else on the park all evening and deliver a commendable number of great
crosses
into the box leading to a goal in the second half. At the back, the Todd
brothers Ryan and David with Ryan Deasy on the left hand side, were deliver a strong performance and delivered a clean sheet in

the first half, although this involved Carrigtwohill’s keeper Ruairi Adam saving in the penalty in the final minute, with a strong one hand save from Corinthi- an’s spot kick. The second half saw
Carrigtwohill showing even greater application and the patient build-up play finally pay off with a superb and composed goal from Zack Griffin after a Carrigtwohill cross had deceived the goalkeeper. Corinthians however had very fast players and they had numerous chances to outrun the Carrigtwohill defence, only denied by in- spired goalkeeping and last ditch defending from Ben O’Sullivan who had come on after an injury to Ryan
Deasy. Midway through the half, however, the
hosts
equalised and took the lead with two solo goals involv- ing Corinthians’ forwards showing impressive com- posure in front of goals. There was more to come as Cormac Murphy scored yet
another super goal
from distance. Spotting the Goalkeeper off his line, he controlled the ball and shot over the heads practi- cally from the halfway line to find the back of the net and tie the game at two-all. It was then that Corin-
thians ran one final time at
the Carrigtwohill goals
with the consequence al- ready described above – a dagger in the heart of Car- rigtwohill’s young players

with only two minutes to go. As emphasised by the Carrigtwohill coaches at the end, there is no need for tears after such a great performance. And what an improvement on the pre- vious game away to Innis- hannon! Player of the Match; Joel
