Sarsfields 0-19 Dungourney 1-9
Sarsfields, Co. Junior
runners up in 2016, but promoted to Intermedi- ate this year made a bold statement at Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday night when they had a seven point win over fellow East Cork side, Dungourney in the Prelim- inary Round of the Cork Co. Intermediate Hurl-
ing Championship. The Duns, 2015 County Junior champions, were forced to line out without three of their starting team and this showed as Sars got a grip on the game early and were reluctant to let go. Sars were three point up
by the sixth minute when Luke Hackett, Niall Mc-
Carthy and Liam Healy all raised white flags, and it was Ryan Denny who got on the Dungourney scoreboard with a pointed free. The game was level at three points each on nine minutes but Sarsfields put the foot down on the ac- celerator and notched up seven points, six from play, on the trot to put them in a commanding position. It was Denny again from a placed ball to stop the tide but his point was cancelled when liam Healy point-
ed Sars eleventh point a minute into added time to leave seen between the sides at the break. The game had only
restarted when Niall Mc- Carthy cut a brilliant sideline over the bar to extend his sides lead again. Rory Duggan and Den- ny swapped points on the 33rd
and 35th minutes and
three minutes later Dung- ourney were thrown a life- line when referee Anthony Cummins awarded them a penalty and the ever-ef-
ficient Ryan Denny duly raised a green flag to bring the deficit to five points. However Sars replied with three points on the trot and were motoring well with Joe Barry solid at full back, Garry Gray at centre back and Rory Duggan and James O’Leary on top at midfield. Ryan Denny pulled another point back for Dungourney but again Sars came with a fur- ther three points to really put the game beyond the Duns.

Watergrasshill Lose To Blarney
Watergrasshill 0-9 Blarney 1-11
Watergrasshill will
have to look to the sec- ond chance to remain in the premier Intermediate Hurling championship after losing out to Blar- ney in a low scoring affair played in poor conditions in Pairc Ui Rinn. This was certainly not
a classic but there was plenty of honest endeav- our on both sides who employed a sweeper with Joe Jordan doing well in the role for Blarney. The sides shared the opening four points with Shane Mulcahy and David Cremin on the mark for Blarney, while Eoin Barry and Shane O’Regan re- plied for the Hill. After an exchange
of points the Hill went in front through Aidan
Foley and while ray Mur- phy tied it up again an- other O’Regan free left Watergrasshill in front by a point at the interval. On the resumption
O’Regan pointed twice to extend their advan- tage and while Blarney added a point, each time O’Regan responded to keep Watergrasshill in front going into the final ten minutes. Blarney sub Mark Cremin pointed twice and David Cremin also found the range be- fore Shane Mulcahy had Blarney in front with five minutes remaining. The deal was sealed when Da- vid Cremin fired home the only goal of the game to secure victory for Blar- ney.
