A Huge applause must go to play- er manager Jason Murphy who took over this team at Christmas, juggling play- ing and managing duties which isn’t a easy thing for the good of the team and club, such a great clubman in true magpie colours has to be said, also the help of Liam Mc Mahon is also greatly appreciated ,it re- ally has been a great job in securing there top flight sta- tus for another year, so well done lads and well done to the team. U16 team Thursday night away to Passage on a very difficult playing surface. Midleton played really well in the first half, dominating the game and creating a lot of chances, and coping well with the long ball tactics of the opposition. Unfor- tunately,
they did not cap-
italise on this, with a lot of wayward shooting. As could almost be predicted, Passage scored 7 minutes into the second half. This came from yet another
hu...ge kick from the Passage keeper, which travelled the full length of the pitch, and in the scram- ble, Passage scored. Another Midleton error was pounced on 10 minutes later, giving Pasage a 2-0 lead. How- ever, Midleton never gave
up. Adam Meade scored a header from a corner with 10 minutes to go. Then, a super inswinging free was headed to the net by the al- ways excellent Abdul Back- inson. A tense five minutes of injury time didn’t result in any further scores. This was a super, fighting display by all the players. Every- one played really well, but special mention to keeper Michal Joachim who made three top class saves in the second half. Next up, Park United at league.

on a lovely day. Very little between the sides, a de- fensive mix up let them in for the lead just before the break. The equaliser came only minutes into the second half with a fine strike from Shannon. They then pulled ahead with 2 questionable goals as offside was an issue. But to the girls credit they
continued to work and got one back from Shannon and nearly a second from a Lau- ren free. In the end another ...3-2 defeat but defean- ders Rachel, Lucy, Niamh, Lauren and the 2 Ashlings will have learned a lot and midfielders Emma, Roisin, Chi Chi, Andy, Zara, Holly, Aoife along with Shannon will know more about what is needed to compeat in the Cup Final. Rockmount on Friday night in a hugely important league match, on a beauti- fully prepared Ardrath Park pitch, and the lads came away from the game with a fantastic. This result puts them in touching distance of the league title. After playing
away to
Blarney and getting anoth- er great 0-1 result only for- ty-eight hours beforehand, Rockmount looked that bit sharper in the first fifteen minutes of this game. The Youghal lads took a bit of time to get
their passing
game going, and it was Rockmount who the first big chance of the game. A ball in behind the
Youghal defence found a Rockmount player who got one on one with Youghal’s keeper Kevin Andersen, who made a great save to keep it at 0-0. This seemed to be the warning that the lads needed as they came into the game a lot more. In what was a very tough but fair game, Youghal started to create some chances of their own but the final ball just wasn’t finding a Youghal jersey. Youghal went close to-
wards the end of the half when they were awarded a free kick about twenty-five yards out in a central po- sition. Ross McCarthy stepped up and a brilliant effort brought a great save out of the Rockmount keep- er down low to his right. Youghal started the brighter in the second half and ten minutes in, great work from Cian Daly as he took on the Rockmount
defence saw
Youghal awarded a penalty, as Cian was taken down just inside the penalty area. Ross McCarthy stepped
up and cool as you like slot- ted it into the back of the net giving their keeper no chance. This set Youghal on their way and seemed to calm the nerves a bit, as they regained a lot more possession throughout remainder
the of the half. Continued on next page Tel: 021 463 8000 • Email:
