EC JAFC Glenbower Rovers v St Catherines

Glenbower Rovers 2-14 St. Catherines 1-09

Glenbower Rovers cruised into the last

four

of the ‘Michael O’Connor Motor Factors’ East Cork JAFC with a convincing and impressive win over St. Catherines in Youghal last Saturday evening. The manner in which

the Killeagh men went about their business was nothing short of ‘Foot Per- fect’ and full forward and Captain Sean Long caught the eye with some very im- pressive

scores including

two well taken goals. Rovers were on the

scoreboard through Kieran Lane on the second minute with a free and the excel- lent Sean Long had his first score of the evening two

minutes later. St Cathe- rine’s did get a point back on the eighth minute with a placed ball effort from Dan Mangan, but

then

Glenbower Rovers went into over drive

scoring

a goal and seven points without reply in a sixteen -minute spell of complete dominance. They played some superb football and gave an exhibition of kick passing with Stephen Mur- phy in particular catching the eye. Sean Long had three points from play and a goal in the fourteenth minute, plus there were scores from Matthew Murphy and Johnny

O’Connor @eastcorkjournal / #eastcorkjournal who had a brace each as Glen-

bower stretched clear.. St

Scorers for Glenbow- Catherines scored

three more first half scores, but Rovers replied with three

of their own be-

fore the short whistle with Glenbower in front by elev- en points.

As a contest the game

was really over, but to their credit St Catherine’s fought hard in

the second half

with a goal from Conor Kearney late on and a few well taken scores from Dan Mangan, but Kieran Lane was pin point accurate with his two second half frees and Shane Long pounced on a defensive error with lethal force to slot home his second goal as Glenbower march on into the semi-fi- nal. They will now park the big ball for the remainder of the summer confident in the knowledge that they will challenge for honours later in the season.
