through

the season. They now focus their

attention on the Liam Fitzgerald Cup where they take on Inch Utd next Wed 3rd

geely, kickoff 7pm. After this their concen- tration will turn to the Kelly Kitchens Cup semi-final on Wed 10th where they take on the winners of Brideview/ Clashmore.

U-13’s Win Cup Final Friday 28 April 2017 Under 13 Cup Final Mogeely 1 v 0 Cap- poquin (aet) Mogeely and Cap- poquin were the two teams left to contest

the U13 WWEC cup final this year. With the semi finals only played on Tuesday night last there was a quick turn around for both teams to contest the final, however still managed to provide a very enter- taining game. Mogeely overcame a close en- counter against Lismore in their semi final after a penalty shootout while Cappoquin knocked out Valley Rangers with a two-nil win in theirs. Playing in St. Colman’s Park, Cobh this was a very big ocassion for both sides and tested a lot of players nerves, however once that whis- tle went it was down to business. Mogeely had a lot of possession dur- ing the game but it was Cappoquin who had the better of the chanc- es. Mogeely’s defense in Adam Bailey, Cathal Murphy, Patrick Daly

and Tom Fleming were on high alert with Cap- poquins strikers provid- ing a constant threat. On a number of occas- sions Cappoquin found themselves one on one with Mogeely keeper Euan Donnelly who on each occassion stood up to the challenge and produced a man of the match performance with a series of saves when called upon. Oran Sweetnam

and Sean O’Connor were tasked with con- trolling the centre of the park providing the link between defense and attack. They were supported by wingers David Lynch and Liam O’Connor who tirelesly ran the lines all night. The goalscoring duo of Billy Peader McCa- rthy and Billy McGann provided the strike force for Mogeely who had a tough duty all night

with Cappoquin de- fenders standing up to Mogeely’s challenge. With the game head-

ing for extra time play- ers were tiring. Mogeely had to make a num- ber of tactical changes throughout the field. They looked to their extensive bench in Evan Twomey, Jake Mulcahy, Liam Kelly, Kieran Walsh, Ewan Wimpen- ny, Patrick Crowley and Noah Coady to provide fresh legs and inject a new energy back into the team. This put the pressure back on Cap- poquin and allowed Mogeely back into this game. Halfway through extra time first half Mo- geely’s pressure paid off. Sean O’Connor cleared the ball from his lines and through Patrick Daly turned it into an attack. The ball fell to Oran Sweetnam, now playing up front. With

the centre half hot on his heels Oran managed to side step the keeper and when it seemed he had taken it too far to the end line he swung his left leg at it and the ball headed straight into the upper corner of the Cappoquin net. Delight ensued in the Mogeely camp and their tre- mendous supporters, the lads had managed to break the deadlock. Mogeely now looked to those fresh legs to keep Cappoquin in their own half and hold out to the end of the game to se- cure their victory. This was a great

achievement for the club and well deserved for the coaches Ger, Tim and Jack and the entire Mogeely squad of players and parents who put in an awesome commitment during this and past seasons. It is a pleasure to see this team

develop and all the play- ers improve with every week. Cappoquin will have their chance for re- venge on Mogeely when both sides will meet again in the WWEC league division - Section B final in the coming weeks. Further info on this fixture will follow but for the moment the lads will enjoy this well deserved victory. Well done to all.
