East Ferry Rowing Club Collection in Aid of the Homeless

EAST Ferry Rowing Club


are collecting


items for the homeless at East Ferry Pier on Saturday, 17 Decem- ber from 12 to 2pm and Sunday, 18 De- cember from 12.00pm to 3pm. The group chose to


work with the Helping Hands Homeless Action Group in order to assist with the growing problem of homelessness across East Cork. Kate Deady, Secretary


of East Ferry Rowing Club said: “We really became aware of the problem re- cently when we saw there was so many people shar- ing things of Facebook. There is a lot of different charities in Cork that work with the homeless and it is something that can hap- pen to anyone.” East Ferry Rowing Club will be collecting

“Over Christmas a lot of charities have too many volunteers and it is in Jan- uary when they really need them. We are going to all get together and do soup runs and help out after Christmas.” The volunteer soup runs


will be open to any mem- ber of the group over the age of seventeen. “We will be taking some


of the younger members as well. It will be for any-


one over the age of sev- enteen because we feel it will be very beneficial for the younger members to see the issues we have at the moment,” Mrs Deady said.


Helping Hands Home- less Action Group is based in Cork and aims to help those in risk of homeless- ness or who are currently living homeless. The group encourage


anybody who wants to get involved to visit the collec- tion on Sunday or Satur- day afternoon.
