brought Santa to Bally- cotton on Sunday, 11 De- cember.
Mr Claus arrived at
Ballycotton pier via the lifeboat to greet the local children and it was a huge success, according to Bal- lycotton Lifeboat. Eolan Walsh, Coxswain
with Ballycotton Lifeboat and co-organiser of the event, said: “It was great and extremely busy. There was over 130 children that arrived, 131 visited to be precise. It was a massive crowd of parents and chil- dren.” The crowd were treated
to hot chocolate, mulled wine
and some other
Christmas goodies on the day.
As Christmas music
played out across the pier, the festive decorations that had been hung by Bally- cotton Lifeboat across the pontoon were lit up. This is the first year the pier in Ballycotton has

been lit up for the Christ- mas season. “We accepted donations
on the day but it was all about the kids and giving back to the community. They were mainly local kids from Ballycotton, Cloyne and around the area. It was all for the kids.” Mr Walsh explained.
The event was free to
all the community but voluntary donations to Ballycotton Lifeboat were accepted. Ballycotton Lifeboat
was founded in 1858 and has won over seventeen medals for its services. It is part of the Royal National Lifeboat Institu-
tion (RNLI), a registered charity that provides a 24- hour lifeboat search and rescue service the coast of Ireland and the UK. The RNLI and Bally-
cotton Lifeboat continues to rely on voluntary con- tributions for their income. On average
it takes €1,343 to kit out a life-
boat crewmember, €1,502 to train a crewmember, €257,000 to run the life- boat station. Last year Irish Lifeboats
launched 976 times and rescued over 1,000 people across the country. Ballycotton Lifeboat and Ballycotton Devel- opment

thanked all those who came along on the day and supported the cause.
Avondale Bridge Club Outing A group of 88 strong members and friends travelled
to Kelly’s Rosslare on November 2015. First stop
was at The Dunbrody Famine Ship in new Ross for lunch and then onto Kelly’s Bar for afternoon tea and dinner at 8pm. Suitable beverages and danced until the small hours. Bridge playing was the order of the evening much earlier, and was won by Carmel O’Leary and Jane Browner. Next day they headed to meet the very popular Kevin Dundon, renowned chef RTE fame in Dunbrody House. More bridge games and on this occasion the winners were Nancy and Joe Lupton. Apparently it was a memorable few days for all who travelled and roll on the next outing to Clonmel on March 31st
