Sec- and
Fashion Show was an out- standing success last Thurs- day, 8 December, raising, just over €7,500 for the school’s ASD unit. The Winter Wonderland
event comprised 12 market stalls run by local businesses which were open from 7pm, and a fashion show which commenced at 8pm. The night was attended by al- most 350 people, and raised just over €7,500 for the school’s ASD unit, which caters for the needs of pu- pils with Autism Spectrum Disorders. “It was fantastic,” said
Helen Murphy, a teacher at Midleton CBS Second- ary School and an organ- iser of the event. “It was a great night. We’d 340 peo- ple attending, so it was very well supported. We raised a significant amount of money for the ASD unit in the school. The funding we get from government is fine but not adequate, and the money we raised will make
a huge difference in terms of resources for those in the ASD unit.” The
event featured
goodie bags given to the first 100 attendees, and a mulled wine reception. The markets featured 12 stalls showcasing the products of Midleton businesses. “The Midleton shops looked amazing,” said Ms Murphy. “The stalls and the products
looked beautiful, and it showed how Midleton can really be a shopping town. It showed how viable it is to shop and support local, be- cause there was something for everyone.” The
highlight night, the of the fashion show,
kicked off at 8pm and was emceed by Gerald Kean, who journeyed from Dublin to donate his time, free of
charge, to the event. “The fashion show was
fantastic,” said Ms Murphy. “It got a really, really good response. It had something for everyone – menswear, day and nightwear, bridal, and so on. The staff models were complimented by their professionalism. The mar- ket stalls reopened at half- time, and afterwards they held a monster raffle and the star prize. The principal Pat Hurley gave an address about how it was his last event in an official capacity, and Gerald Keane was a very entertaining host.”

December 2016 “Overall there was a
Great atmosphere, a great community spirit,” said Ms Murphy. “The school would like to thank all of our sponsors for and all their help, and the priz- es and the star prize for the raffle. Everybody was very, very generous. We’re overwhelmed by the huge amount of people and busi- ness who supported, helped us out, and donated their time and products. With- out their help it wouldn’t’ve been possible, and it made a huge difference to the ASD unit.”
