Corkbeg 2 College Corinthians 2 The
Beg U16 squad
maintained the recent run of good form with a well deserved draw against College
Sunday week. In truth, this is a game that the Beg left behind them, as for long periods they
dominated Corinthians last O’Hal-
loran(70mins), M. Aszy- jczyk for D, Casey(80mins)
exchanges but couldn’t
find the back of the net from some great opportu- nities. The game was fast and free-flowing providing great
entertainment for
the large home crowd and in fairness to Corinthians, they play they game the right way. The Beg were 1-0 up inside ten minutes when
Nattaphong Khe-
matong hit a screamer to the net
after some good
approach play. The Beg pushed on for number two and were denied a second when Faelan Nash had a great header ruled out for offside. The Beg then start-
ed showboating and forgot the fundamentals of the game. When that creeps into a team it can only spell one thing and that is trouble. Sure enough the hardworking visitors took advantage of some really poor play from the Beg and in the blink of an eye, they were 2-1 up after a penalty and a fine finish from their most dangerous forward. Half-time and some di-
rect words from the coach- ing staff to try and rebuild focus and get
the squad
back to the pass and move game which this team is built for.
In fairness to the squad,
they went out and gave a fantastic second half per- formance led by their cap- tain Adam Laffan, who made some terrific runs from the deep. The Begs equalizer was a thing of beauty: a flowing passing move from goalkeeper Ivan Merz to left back Dave Hickman onto midfielder Max Ahern who played a series of one twos with the outstanding Josh Leahy for Max to finish with aplomb - what a goal ! Maybe those old coaches are right... it is a simple game when you pass and move !!

Fixtures Cork Zone (I.I.B.A.) Qualifying rounds (bal- ance), National Champi- onships on 8th
January 2017 The Beg had the tails up
now and were it not for a series of fine saves from the Corinthians goalkeep- er they would surely have claimed a third victory in a row. Both Josh and Rob Fletcher will wonder how they failed to convert from 8 yards but credit
to the
keeper who made point blank stops. The lads are continuing to improve and if
they can keep this run
going they will trouble a few of the big guns in the league.
