EAST CORK MACRA NA FEIRME Glanmire Macra are Always Giving!

info@eastcorkjournal.ie This week was defi-

nitely are very satisfying week. We all volunteered to help out in the deco- rating of the Children’s

ward in CUH with bal- loons supplied by Red Balloon in association with a member of ours Jenny Murphy. After a

few tiring hours of hand- inflation of the balloons, we arrived and proceeded to light up the hallways with Olaf the Snowman,

as well as Santa Claus and many other surprises. The nurses , doctors and all the staff really appreci- ated such a big gesture at

a difficult time of year for the children in hospital. Our charitable acts,

however, did not stop there! On Sunday, we had our annual woodcutting where we donated freshly cut fire wood to the elder-

ly and people in need in the community. They all look forward to our visit every year! Congratulations to chairperson

12 December, Seandun Macra were invited to an information evening at Goldcrop in Springhill, Carrigtwohill. Goldcrop is Ireland’s biggest assem- bler, importer and distrib- utor of all seed types in Irish markets. There was a huge turn-out with over 40 young farmers from the area attending including farmers from the dairy, beef and sheep sectors of agriculture. The presenta- tions covered all aspects of grass seeding includ-

ing selection, production and economics and af- terwards there was a tour of Goldcrop’s facilities in Carrigtwohill. The night finished with refreshments which afforded farmers in attendance the opportuni- ty to discuss any queries which the

presentations

raised. It was certainly a night

that was of great

benefit to all who travelled to Carrigtwohill and no doubt

the presentations

planted seeds in the minds of those who attended which will bear fruit in the

years to come! Seandun Macra will

host a drama workshop this Thursday night 15 December at the Viaduct Inn, Bandon Road, Cork at 8pm. This will give clubs interested in taking part in the Macra drama competition in the New Year some insight

into

how to select a play and cast and produce a one act drama. Guest speakers on the night will include former National Title win- ners and all are welcome to attend.

there must be some-

thing that we as a group of local food producers could do to help other people in our communi- ty. We then came up with this idea, which guaran- tees that when people shop local this Christmas, they will be supporting their local community.” He added: “The Cork
