Midleton FC’s Overhauled All-Weather Training Facility to be Opened by Cork City FC Manager this Sunday

by ALAN SHEEHAN Continued from front

The project began in the summer, and was made possible

and the

through grants club’s tireless

fundraising efforts. “The upgrade costs €145,000 in total,” said Mr Kirby. “We got a grant of €58,000 from Sports Capital Pro- gramme

grant [by the

Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport], and support from Cork Coun- ty Council’s Capital [Fund Scheme] grant for €6,000. The rest was fundraised by ourselves.” The first iteration of

the all-weather pitch was laid down back in 1990, with the other four phases in the club’s development including the installation of floodlights around the first pitch, the refurbish- ing of the dressing room buildings, the construction of the new clubhouse — “Which is used for courses

and has a function room. It gets used for everything,” said Mr Kirby — and most recently, the overhaul of the all-weather pitch. Mr Caulfield, whose

City squad also finished runners-up in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland, will bring the FAI Cup to Knockgriffin dur- ing his visit and attendees can get photographs with the trophy. “To mark the occasion,” said Mr Kirby, “we invited John Caulfield, manag- er of Cork City Football Club, the FAI Cup win- ners, down to open it and help celebrate the comple- tion of the fifth phase of development in Knockgrif- fin Park. It’s another cel- ebration

of achievement

by so many people who’ve worked so hard in raising funds for Knockgriffin Park. So many people will benefit from it, that’s it’s important to acknowledge the hard work put in by so
