East Cork Music Project Coffee Morning A Huge Success, With Thanks to Midleton’s IMP Choir
by ALAN SHEEHAN The
East Cork Music
Project (ECMP) fourth cof- fee morning and craft fair was very well supported by the local community last Thursday, 8 December. The ECMP held its its new premises
event at at
the Midleton Commu-
nity Centre, and ran from 11am-1pm, providing the local community with an opportunity to see the work of the project’s participants from both the music and art sections. The highlight of the event however came when the IMP Choir of Midleton presented two cheques: one for €1,000 to
the ECMP, and another for €500 for East Cork Parents and Friends of the Mentally Handicapped. The IMP Choir performs
every week at the Holy Ro- sary Church in Midleton, and also at funeral. The group
perform for
and pass along any dona- tions they receive to other
free, worthy initiatives such as
the ECMP and East Cork Parents and Friends of the Mentally Handicapped “We’re so, so happy with
the whole event,” said Clare Seymour, project coordina- tor of the ECMP. “We’re very proud of our young people. The event gave an opportunity for people to
gain a different perspective on the young people in the town, to show what these young people can do when they
are given the opportunity to do something. It was a very happy event, everybody en- joyed themselves. It gave us a sense of what we can do in the future.” The ECMP is a local
training initiative now in its fifth year of operation and aims to aid their partici- pants in progressing to full
time education, training, or employment through a ho- listic approach across three strands: creativity (through both art and music), per- sonal development, and consciousness raising. The project was previously lo- cated in Ballinacurra Busi- ness Park, but moved to the Midleton Community Cen- tre earlier this year. Various crafts and art-
works created by the ECMP participants were on sale, along with coffee and an assortment of cakes, before

the participants from the music section, both the FE- TAC level 4 and 5 groups, held performances. “It was the FETAC
Fours’ first time perform- ing,” said Ms Seymour. “They only began on 3 October, and eight weeks later form them to know that many songs and be that comfortable performing in a group is highly impress. Now they can go hell for leather. We’re
delighted with them, with both groups.”
