DONETSK FC Shakhtar’s new home, the Donbass Arena or the ‘Jewel in the Park’, is a five-star stadium set in Leninsky Komosol Park in Donetsk, Ukraine. It is covered by 24,000 sq metres of glass, which can be lit up at night. The venue is designed to provide a leisure destination for all year round use and legacy benefit to the community. Beside sporting events, the venue will also host concerts and shows, it has several cafes, and a restaurant, as well as a club museum and brand shop. Designed to seat a capacity crowd of 52,518, including media and VIP stands, the stadium will offer spectators the best possible views, thanks to optimised bowl design. To ensure occupant comfort, air paths at the top of the first tier were incorporated to ensure plenty of ventilation during summer months. A 3D network of steel elements forms a lightweight and efficient roof structure that appears to float above the building. It slopes from north to south, matching the landscape and increasing natural light and air reaching the pitch. It also incorporates an area of translucent covering that maximises daylight penetration to the grass, allowing for good quality pitch conditions. Airflow, shading and heating for the venue were all designed to create optimal conditions for maintaining the playing surface. The installation was, once again, handled by Kompeks-V. A Bose speaker system is powered by Bittner amplifiers, with audio processing from Peavey MediaMatrix. Clusters comprising two Bose LT 9702 speakers, a Bose LT 4402 speaker and two Bose MB24 subwoofers. In total, there are 22 of these clusters spread around the stadium - six on the northern stand, five on the eastern, six on the southern and five on the western. They are driven by Bittner XR2000 and Bittner 4X1400 amplifiers, which are managed by Bittner SXL units and Bittner AX16 devices ensure a defective amp is switched to a back-up amp. Bose Panaray 402 II and Bose FreeSpace 32SE speakers have been prescribed for the external areas. They are powered by Bittner 4X700 amplifiers, with SXL units and AX16 devices for control. Racks are situated in all four sides of the stadium, and work with the speakers within its own jurisdiction. and output on and off a 100baseT Ethernet network, employing CobraNet. These units talk to a central processing rack that has three Peavey MediaMatrix NION n6 processors. A control room is equipped with Sennheiser SKM500G2 radio microphone systems, beyerdynamic dt109 and dt297 headsets, a Denon DN-C620, a Tascam DV01U and an Allen & Heath ZED12FX mixer. The spectator experience has been enhanced by two giant Philips LED screens, pitch lighting, fascia banners as well as indoor and outdoor lighting in the stadium. Philips LED Display Solutions was chosen for this project because of its global experience and reputation and successful track record with sports facilities.
