A key aim of the company is to deliver surround sound from stereo, made possible by their Spatial Audio Workstation IPC 100 - a multiple rendering machine sold either with loudspeakers or without. Olaf Stepputat, CEO of IOSONO since 2009, explains. “For producers IOSONO’s technology opens up new creative pos- sibilities. Audio sources can be panned beyond the actual size of the room or positioned as focused sources inside the listening area. So, for example a nearing thunderstorm can be perceived as approaching from the distance and also the sounds of the raindrops can be placed falling on the heads of listeners.”


Launched in 2010 the IPC 100 features rendering of up to 64 simul- taneous input channels running at 96k 24 bit. It allows not only the playback of 3D sounds but of all conventional and future multi channel speaker formats as well. Several features make the system easily


adaptable to different sized venues and various loudspeaker settings. Included is a room tuning plug-in optimising loudspeaker setups by modifying each speaker’s signals according to its position. Thus, quality losses caused by the venue’s architecture are compensated to a great extent. The processor supports speaker configurations from five to 500 loudspeakers. Supporting Time Code synchronisation and show control systems, it can also be easily integrated into other instal- lations. The processor can be used with 3D setups including height speakers and a recent feature was added for enhanced spatial play- back of regular 5.1 surround material, which is especially important for cinema installations.


The IOSONO system was essential in order to help phase7 realise their vision of how they wanted to stage ‘Neither’. “Feldman was looking for ‘something hovering’, so IOSONO was perfect for the
