When choosing intelligent lighting fixtures, Lincoln turned to Italian manufacturer Clay Paky, and a model from its popular Alpha range of moving heads. The Alpha Spot HPE 300’s are compact and lightweight making them ideal for ceiling mounting as required at Velvet Underground. They also offer an extremely bright output, which is able to complement the LED ceiling and the abstract artwork hung on the walls. Lincoln said of the Alpha Spot HPE 300’s: “These luminaires pack very powerful effects. Their good dimming and good CMY system make them a breeze to work with, these lights are brilliant and are fast as well as reliable. They pump in energy and excitement to the room every night.” The LED screen covers the entire ceiling and the wall behind the DJ booth. Along one side of the room a mirror, which spans the length of the space has been installed to create the illusion that the LED ceiling is actually double its width. In reality the screen - supplied by Leyard - is still an impressive size, measuring 19ft by 37ft. Control for the lighting fixtures and the LED screen is a combination of a ChamSys MagicQ Maxi Wing lighting console, an ArKaos VJ DMX media server, and Resolume Arena and garageCUBE Madmapper VJ software running on a Mac Book Pro. Lincoln explained the set-up: “The ChamSys MagicQ is an amazing lightweight board, especially when it comes to the handling of media servers, it brings lighting and video together really well. Video mapping of some paintings in Velvet Underground-Dance is run through the Chamsys MagicQ Maxi wing - on OSX with an external touch screen. It is versatile and ergonomically designed. “The integrated media server runs off ArKaos VJ DMX. Each 7,000 lumen projector is connected via ArtNet and run off the same lighting desk that the VJs use. Content was created in After Effects and Cinema 4D and mapped using MadMapper. The ChamSys console and Arkaos DMX allow VJs to have simultaneous control of the lighting and mapping visuals throughout the night, which produces a cohesive and seamless system.” To bring a venue to life time and time again alongside new competition is no easy challenge but parent company Zouk seems to have achieved its goal once again with Velvet Underground. Perhaps a contributory factor is its continuity and its love of timeless classics especially when it comes to art. A total of 26 original paintings from the likes of as Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Takashi Murakami, Frank Stella and Romero Britto have been hanging in the venue since opening day and they remain there today. In conjunction with the new technology, the painting too have benefitted from a new lease of life. Lincoln concluded: “To be able to see these artworks in the dark environment of a club, many of them are animated by video mapping with projectors to make these artworks come to life and become part of Velvet Underground’s visual appeal and overall audio-visual nightlife experience offering.”

Le Velvet Underground est un espace bien plus petit et intimiste du lieu, et a été l’objet des toutes dernières modifications. Marchant sur les pas de la salle principale du Zouk, Lincoln Cheng, PDG de Zouk, ainsi que le designer Phillips Connor ont choisi un système audio analogique fait maison, 100% rétro, de Gary Stewart Audio (GSA). Le système est alimenté par des amplis Crown avec un module PIP-USP4 et est contrôlé à distance. Il est géré par un logiciel HiQnet System Architect, et le mixage en live est assuré par une console numérique Yamaha 01V96 VCM. L’éclairage est assuré par 300 sports mobiles Clay Paky Alpha Spot opérés depuis un contrôleur ChamSys Lighting, et un gigantesque écran LCD de 37 pieds de Leyard est installé en haut de la piste pour des effets visuels exceptionnels.

den Ufern des Singapore River in das weltbekannte Zouk Empire von heute umgewandelt wurde. Einige der ursprünglichen Merkmale wurden restauriert und verleihen dem Zouk seinen einzigartigen Charakter und Charme, ein Konzept, das alle Renovierungen im Laufe der Jahre überlebt hat. Velvet Underground ist der kleinere, intimere Clubbereich innerhalb des Treffs und Gegenstand der letzten Umgestaltung. Lincoln Cheng, Aufsichtsratsvorsitzender und Generaldirektor von Zouk und Designer Phillips Connor folgten den Spuren des Hauptraumes im Zouk und entschieden sich für ein kundenspezifisches, 100 % alte Schule, analoges Audiosystem von Gary Stewart Audio (GSA). Das System wird betrieben von Crown Verstärkern mit PIP-USP4 Modul und wird ferngesteuert. Es wird über eine HiQnet System Architect Software überwacht, während das Mischen von einem Yamaha 01V96 VCM Digitalpult übernommen wird. Die Beleuchtung erfolgt über Clay Paky Alpha Spot 300 Moving Heads, die durch einen ChamSys Lighting Controller betrieben werden. Ein 19 mal 37 Fuß großer LED Bildschirm von Leyard ist über der Tanzfläche montiert und bietet erstaunliche visuelle Effekte.

Alcune delle caratteristiche originarie sono state restaurate ma mantenute, conferendo allo Zouk un carattere e uno charm unici, concetto che si è sempre voluto preservare nel corso degli anni, restauro dopo restauro. Velvet Underground è il locale più piccolo e intimo della catena ad esser stato rinnovato. Seguendo lo stile della sala principale dello Zouk, Lincoln Cheng, Presidente esecutivo e Amministratore Delegato di Zouk, insieme al designer Phillips Connor, ha scelto di installare un impianto acustico analogico su misura, 100% vecchia scuola, il Gary Stewart Audio (GSA). Il sistema è alimentato da amplificatori Crown con modulo PIP-USP4, telecomandati a distanza, ed è gestito dal software HiQnet System Architect, mentre il live mixing è supportato da una consolle digitale Yamaha 01V96 VCM. L’impianto di illuminazione consiste in effetti luci a teste mobili Clay Paky Alpha Spot 300, azionabili a distanza da un telecomando ChamSys. Infine, uno schermo enorme da 19 x 37 pollici della Leyard è stato installato proprio sopra la pista da ballo in modo da creare un effetto visivo ancora più strabiliante.

Algunas de las características originales fueron restauradas ofreciéndole a Zouk su personalidad y encanto únicos, un concepto que ha permanecido a través de cada renovación a lo largo de los años. Velvet Underground es el espacio más pequeño e íntimo del club dentro del sitio, que ha sido el objeto del último rediseño. Siguiendo los pasos del Salón Principal de Zouk, Lincoln Cheng, Presidente y CEO de Zouk y el Diseñador Phillips Connor optaron por un sistema de audio personalizado, análogo y 100% de la vieja escuela de Gary Stewart Audio (GSA). El sistema es potenciado con amplificadores Crown con módulo PIP-USP4 y es controlado remotamente. El mismo es monitoreado mediante software HiQnet System Architect, mientras que las mezclas en vivo están a cargo de una consola digital Yamaha 01V96 VCM . La iluminación está provista por cabezales móviles Clay Paky Alpha Spot 300 operados por un controlador de iluminación.
