were walking in and out of coverage. The third optimisation saw the drapes at the rear of the seating area open up to reveal a further 10 metres, the coverage was then recalculated to include those extra 10 metres, again all carried out electronically. Algam’s Matthieu Foubert explained why it was important for the MLA Compact to have its own launch in the French market: “The target market of the MLA Compact is bigger for us in comparison to the larger scale MLA. We wanted to grab the opportunity with the MLA Compact because it is more suitable to the customers that we have in our portfolio.” Mixing capabilities during the demonstration were provided by Avid and marked another first time prod- uct outing for Algam. An Avid Venue SC48 Remote System, which features the SC48 digital console with the addition of the new Avid Venue Stage 48 remote box was in control. The new set-up enabled the I/O to be placed closer to the sound source rather than the console. And with a fully integrated Pro Tools package also onboard, this mixing solution is ideal for live performance applications. Feedback receieved from the visitors was described by Bruno Dabard of Algam: “The feedback was that this technology is really bringing something new to the market. The demo showed that the system was really efficient. The level of acoustic pressure that can be achieved with the system is really impressive in this format of boxes, it’s amazing. Taking into account the technical format, the pressure level, the exclusive features and adaptive coverage, there are many applications that the MLA Compact would be well suited to.”
The Nantes launch marked the beginning of a mini roadshow for the Compact, after France the system will be making its way to Spain, Belgium and The Netherlands for similar demonstrations before it re- turns home to the UK.
