I guess I won’t know if this statement is true for a number of years, but the last five years of my life, spent at Mondiale Publishing, will probably turn out to be my most defining. In career terms, at least, and certainly more. Before joining this unique, northern-UK enterprise, I was a bit of a drifter and a definite dreamer. It wasn’t like I didn’t want to do anything, but like many people in this industry, I’d spent my early-20s thinking I was going to be a rock star. Then the penny dropped and luckily Mondiale appeared like a mirage on the horizon. Mondiale - namely Justin Gawne and Damian Walsh - gave me a chance I wasn’t really sure existed. All I wanted to do was be creative and write for a living. But thrown into the bargain was seeing places I had no ambition to see, meeting people I hadn’t considered meeting and collecting some memories that I could never have imagined. It’s been a blast. I am moving away from this industry but will still be writing words for a living. I will, of course, leave with a heavy heart. I’ve met some really great people in the last five years. It saddens me that I won’t be able to say goodbye properly, but I hold out hope that our paths will cross again sometime soon. Jerry Gilbert kindly said to me, ‘may the wind always stay at your back’. I wish you all the same.

This leader marks the beginning of a new chapter for mondo*dr. Cast your mind back to September / October 2009, when mondo*dr had a new line-up with the infamous Justin Gawne at the forefront. We spruced up the publication with a redesign and extended our remit beyond the realms of nightclubs during the PLASA Show that year. Since then Justin - along with Michael Nicholson and I as joint editors and Curtis Campbell who joined us in 2011 - have invested a lot of time and hard work to ensure

people know and love the ‘new’ mondo*dr. But, after 20 issues together, Michael has decided it is time for him to move on. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish him every success for the future and to tell him that he’ll be missed.

I have now taken on the role of Editor. Over the last two years I have spent a lot of time in the Asia Pacific region and while this will continue, I’ll also be extending my travel plans to include the rest of the world. For those of you who already know me, I’ll look forward to developing our working relationships further. For those who don’t, I’d like to change that, so if you see me walking around a tradeshow please introduce yourself. Here’s to the next step, wish me luck.
