Municipal Stadium Poznan © EURO Poznan2012

POZNAN The construction of the Municipal Stadium in Poznan started in the 1968, and quite remarkably, didn’t open to the public until 1980. Like the other stadia, this one, too, has been upgraded and given a structural and technological facelift. Four new, roofed stands have been built and the stadium has been encased in a membrane, which works as a canvas for the LED lighting installation. There are just over 43,000 seats within the arena, which will be reduced to nearer 41,000 for Euro 2012. The audio team had the task of ensuring even coverage in the wide seating areas, while maintaining high speech intelligibility. This was achieved using Outline’s high performance loudspeakers: 52 Outline Triplas, 64 Outline Micras and six Outline Doppias. Ouline’s Polish distributor, Ambient Sound, handled the audio installation. Ambient Sound’s Krzysztof Mludzik and Kamil Slowikowski, who designed the system, cited product quality and manufacturer support as the reasons behind their equipment choices. For example, together with Outline’s engineers, the designers specified a list of modifications of the basic products, made to ensure the speakers high reliability and resistance to harsh weather conditions. To reproduce speech and music in the stadium, Outline’s sole distributor for Poland used a sound reinforcement system based on 52 Tripla II 9075 loudspeakers and 64 Micra II loudspeakers (covering the stands), as well as six Doppia II 9075 P loudspeakers for the pitch. Power was courtesy of 34 Outline T Five and eight Outline T Seven amplifiers. The speaker set-up used in this project was tested using EASE software. The simulations confirmed that for this large venue, only a

fully professional set-up based on speakers, such as Outline’s, could have met the necessary standards. Reflecting on Ouline’s involvement, company co-owner, Michele Noselli said: “We’re obviously extremely proud that our systems will be used during Euro 2012. The flexibility of our production line enables us to customise products, in this case bearing in mind the very low operating temperatures. As is standard procedure with us, every cabinet was submitted to treatment - immersion in a special compound - that impregnates the wood and makes it water and mould-proof. In the case of the Polish installation, following the application of the scratch-resistant black paint - itself strong and long-lasting - the enclosures underwent a special micro-porous treatment that further accentuates resistance and also favours the material’s breathing - an important detail. “The numerous special features also include audio cables with double insulation and watertight cable glands, instead of the customary Speakon connectors, to avoid the risk of rainwater seepage. As far as reliability and sturdiness are concerned, we’re sure the Poznan audio system will give absolutely no worries.” A Lightpower P16mm outdoor full colour LED display has also been installed within the arena. The lighting of the external façade of the Poznan stadium is carried out by 195 Philips RGB projectors, with controls and software, which allow dynamic colour changes. The external part of the roof’s membrane is backlit by the projectors. Thanks to almost unlimited possibilities to create dynamic colour changes on the day of the match the stadium can ‘shine’ from afar with the club or national colours. The Philips ColorBlast projectors are particularly durable (50,000 hours), and yet consume very little energy (the power needed by each projector is just 55W). Products to illuminate the stands include Philips 110 RVP351 projectors. A total of 64 Philips MVF607 spotlights illuminate the roof from within. In the corridors, changing rooms and conference rooms ceiling fittings from the TL5 family of line fluorescent tubes have been used. They are energy-efficient and also allow the creation of any desired mood (thanks to the use of dimmers). In the main entrance lobby and in the area surrounding the exit from the changing rooms to the pitch decorative blue LED lighting has been used, to emulate the colours of the main user of the stadium, Lech Poznan Football Club. www.outline.it / www.philips.com / www.lightpower.cc
