when the lighting requirements are known in advance. Jason said: “ChamSys is a great system, you can make it as simple or as difficult as you want, it’s just a very dynamic system that you can customise to whatever spec you need.”
For live performances when live lighting changes may be required the 10 playback faders and cue stack control buttons aid live show con- trol. Two fully patchable direct DMX outputs on the rear panel also extend the flexibility of this desk. The MagicQ Extra Wing extends the number of physical playbacks, it is fitted with 24 playbacks, split into two sections - one section with 12 faders and one section with 12 execute buttons. The GH Hotel also has a ChamSys ArtNet node running a further four universes of DMX.
Marcel summed up the lighting part of the installation: “It is likely the best fitted-out venue of its type in Melbourne and likely the beginning of a new era for clubs, where technology is embraced and forms an integral part of the identity of the venue. The flexibility gained by the intelligent lighting has proved to be a tremendous advantage in venue utilisation and the capability to accommodate much varied content in relatively short change-overs. This is critical in assisting venue staff to meet busy schedules and maximising venue potential for the owners.”
The audio configuration at the GH Hotel comprises a main PA system with delay fill speakers driven by nine amplifiers, all courtesy of d&b audiotechnik. There are two front of house arrays flown either side of the stage. Each array includes four d&b audiotechnik Ti 10 cabinets for the mid / high section and two Ti-SUB subwoofers to supplement the low frequencies. A further two d&b audiotechnik Ti 10’s, two E12 loudspeakers and one E12-D loudspeaker are used as delays. The real low end comes from four d&b audiotechnik J- SUB woofers mounted in the stage.

“We do a lot of live PA’s during our nights so I wanted a system that
was as fast as possible to strike and store. We can have the main FOH mix position broken down and packed away within 10 minutes.”
Jason said: “The Ti [Series] is perfect for the room as it is fairly short and wide; the horn on the Ti means we can address the space with- out a dramatic dead spot in the front centre of the room.” The sound system is powered by seven d&b audiotechnik D12 ampli- fiers and two D6 amplifiers. They provided control via integrated DSP, which ensures the most up-to-date functions for the system. The d&b audiotechnik amplifiers feature user definable 4-band parametric equalisation and delay capabilities, making them ideal for both DJ and live applications. “The combination originally specified was
