DAY 1 – Fly to Mexico Virgin Atlantic fl ight from London Gatwick to Cancun, continue with Aeromexico to Mexico City, for 3 nights at the Holiday Inn Mexico City Zocalo.

DAYS 2/3 – Mexico City Sightseeing in Mexico City, visiting Xochimilco, the Anthropological Museum and the Historic Centre. Also discover the Basilica of Guadalupe and the vast Pyramids of the Sun and Moon at Teotihuacan.


DAYS 4 to 6 – Oaxaca


Drive to Oaxaca, visiting the colourful town of Puebla en route. Spend 3 nights at Casa Conzatti. Explore this colonial and leafy city, as well as the evocative hilltop temple of Monte Alban above the town. Visit more of the nearby attractions including the weavers of Teotitlan de Valle, the temple of Mitla and Tule.


DAY 7 – Tehuantepec Drive through the Sierra Madre to Tehuantepec for 1 night at the Hotel Calli, to break the journey to Chiapas.


DAY 8 – San Cristobal de las Casas


Continue into Chiapas, stopping for a boat ride in the impressive Sumidero Canyon, before an overnight at the Mansion del Valle. Afternoon tour of this tranquil town.


YUCATAN PENINSULA Separating the Caribbean from the Gulf of Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula is blessed with natural beauty, golden beaches and some of the most important Mayan sites in the Americas. Here you can fi nd the stunning ruins of Chichen Itza and Tulum, as well as the colonial gems of Mérida and Campeche.


MERIDA


Capital of the Yucatan Peninsula, Merida was founded by the Spanish in 1542. Built on the site of an old Mayan settlement, it is believed to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the Americas. Its historic centre, liberally sprinkled with galleries, museums and beautiful colonial buildings, is ideal for exploration.


DAYS 9/10 – Palenque Visit San Juan Chamula, a village known for its blend of Catholic and indigenous beliefs and customs, before continuing for 1 night at the Ciudad Real Palenque. Visit the Mayan ruins at Palenque. Surrounded by jungle, Palenque is considered by many to be the most impressive of all the archaeological sites in Mexico, and is unquestionably evocative, with mist-enshrouded ruins atop jungle-covered hills.


DAY 11 – Campeche


Drive to Campeche for a tour of this UNESCO listed fortifi ed city with its piratical history. Overnight at the Plaza Campeche.


DAY 12 – Uxmal and Merida Transfer to Uxmal for a tour of the ruins, including the Pyramid of the Wizard. Afterwards, continue to Merida for a city tour. Overnight at the Holiday Inn Merida.


DAY 13 – Chichen Itza and Cancun Visit the UNESCO listed ruins at Chichen Itza, voted as one of the ‘New Seven Wonders of the World’. Continue to Cancun for 2 nights at Omni Cancun Hotel.


DAY 14 – Cancun Day at leisure to relax by the sea.
