OKAVANGO DELTA, MOREMI GAME RESERVE The largest inland delta on earth and without doubt Botswana’s most famous natural feature. The Okavango is a remarkable network of lagoons and channels that flood annually. Located in the midst of this expanse of unparalleled beauty, covering 20% of its area is the Moremi Game Reserve, home to an array of wildlife.
PRIVATE CONCESSIONS Beyond the confines of Moremi Game Reserve lie the private concessions that make up the rest of the Okavango Delta. These private reserves, with their small exclusive camps, offer a more intimate game viewing experience. With vast open ranges, unrestricted wildlife movements and fewer crowds, they are often a far more authentic African encounter.
MOKORING THE DELTA The mokoro, a dugout canoe made from a single tree, is the perfect craft for negotiating the shallow waters of the delta, with its streamlined shape gently and silently gliding through the narrow channels. Mokoros are synonymous with the Delta and, today are an experience not to be missed if visiting the Okavango.
THE LINYANTI WETLANDS Lying to the north of the Okavango Delta, the Linyanti Wetlands present visitors with one of the most remote and inaccessible parts of Africa. Covering over 1,250 square kilometres, its rivers, floodplains and dense forests support huge herds of zebra, buffalo and elephant, as well as wild dog, cheetah and aardvarks.
KALAHARI DESERT Spreading across nearly 75% of Botswana’s landmass, the magical world of the Kalahari is one of Africa’s last great wilderness areas. Traditional heartland of the San bushmen and their culture, each year after the first rains (November), its blinding saltpans and expansive savannahs witness the arrival of game in their thousands.
ADVENTURE CAMPING IN BOTSWANA Camping safaris are the perfect way to make the most of Botswana’s natural treasures. A combination of luxury thatched chalets and private riverside camps recreate something of the adventure and excitement of the early days of African exploration, but with the added bonus of expert guides and en suite comforts.
CHOBE NATIONAL PARK Famous for its large herds of elephants, Chobe, the second largest park in Botswana, boasts some of the greatest concentrations of game found anywhere in Africa. It also enjoys a staggering collection of wildlife around the Savuti Marsh with predators such as lion, hyena, jackal, cheetah and wild dog.
