Lijiang


SOUTH WEST CHINA


China’s south west provinces reveal a quite spectacular wealth of treasures, from the remarkable Stone Forest of Kunming to the lush tropical plains of Xishuangbanna and the snow-capped mountains of Zhongdian.


KUNMING With an unusually mild climate, Kunming is the perfect base for exploring further into Yunnan province. A wander through the alleyways will reveal roadside masseurs, karaoke stalls and entertaining street performers.


DALI


Home to indigenous tribes of Hani and Bai, Dali is a fascinating mix of tribal lore, traditional stone architecture and historical monuments. A walk around the cobbled back streets is a particularly nice way to enjoy this pleasant town.


LIJIANG


Home to the matriarchal Naxi, Lijiang occupies a plateau in the shadow of the snow-capped peaks of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain on the northern border with Tibet. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this ancient town is a stunning collection of colourful tradition, cobbled streets and wooden houses.


ZHONGDIAN Lying on a high plateau with a picturesque setting amidst lakes, villages and prayer fl ags, the town of Zhongdian is located 100km south of the spectacular Tiger Leaping Gorge.

Fly to Dali for 2 nights at the Regent Hotel. Boat trip on Er Hai Lake, visit Bai villages and the Three Pagodas.


DAYS 6/7 – Lijiang


Drive to Lijiang for 2 nights at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Visit the spectacular Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and the Old Town.


DAYS 8/9 – Zhongdian Travel via the magnifi cent Tiger Leaping Gorge to Zhongdian. 2 nights at Gyalthang Dzong Hotel. Visit Tibetan monasteries, Bita Lake and the Old Town.


DAYS 10/11 – Jinghong
